I'm indulging in another one. xD I'm back to listening to my playlist and remembered how much "Holiday" by Boys Likes Girls makes me think of when Jacob left at the end of Eclipse. Okay, a LOT of songs make me think of Jacob's departure, but the words really fit this time. Well, the chorus, anyhow. xD http://www.lyricsmania.com/lyrics/boys_ ... 24604.html if you want to take a look at the lyrics, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44ZEcEwLfgM for the song itself.

I'm sure you've got a lot of 'Jacob leaving' songs (Though I'm not sure. I haven't updated myself on the statuses. I've been so busy over at the Taylor Lautner thread talking about turtles and naming muscles... ) but I thought I'd throw that one out there, too. :P
OMG yesssssss. THat song is PERFECT for Jacob's departure [not to mention i LUV boys like girls].. thnxx
Dear Jacob, I WIN. Sincerely, Edward.

OK. Confession/clarification time: I really need critiques/reviews of the existing soundtrack/lists before I start getting overloaded with suggestions of new songs. Think of it as weeding the garden before planting new seeds. If you plant first, then when you weed later, you're going to lose some seeds in the fray.

Remember, this thread was not intended to be a "Hey I really like this song" thread. There's already a dedicated thread under Quench for each of the books called: "My ______book name______ Playlist" that would be a highly appropriate place to put those suggestions. And I'll say for the record that I am reviewing those threads for suggestions as I do this.

If for whatever reason you don't want to post on those threads and want specifically my opinion, by all means, PM me! Those who have know that I respond fairly rapidly.

I know, I know that I asked for suggestions at the beginning of this thread, but it was more substitutions I was looking for rather than general recommendations.

I REALLY hope I'm not coming across as harsh here, I'm just trying to keep this thread from going off the rails.

I LOVE YOU ALL, really I do!! (((hugs to alll!!)))

Knowing that people are going through the playlists and enjoying it just makes me about as happy as Esme feels when she sees Bella and Edward together. Seriously! :D

For those of you who have posted recommendations so far, I will PM you back with my opinion if I haven't posted my response already.

The main thing is this - recently, I'm finding I have less and less time with the one computer that has my lists, my iTunes and everything else on it. The reasons for this are pretty silly and I won't go into details, but essentially I don't have as much time to work on this as I'd like or I thought I would, so I'm trying to finalize the Twilight list and the New Moon list first before moving on to Eclipse/Breaking Dawn.

Again - I really really really really truly madly deeply appreciate all of your care and help on this, but I really need to know if I'm headed in the right direction and get a (metaphoric) compass reading before continuing towards the edge of the earth.

You know what - to hell with all that. I do need the reviews, but let's do this in an orderly fashion. I know - I'm being waay too fussy about this.

To make this easier on everyone all around (and hopefully for this critiquing to go faster), here's what I'm going to do (but not tonight since it's well after midnight and I have work tomorrow): Friday night I will take the Twilight list and re-post it, but with some of the corrections I've already done and with some color coding so you will know which songs/scenes I'm specifically looking to be reviewed.
Green = I think it's perfect and I'm not looking to replace it.
Yellow = I'm satisfied with it and not looking to replace it.
Orange = I'm not completely satisfied and if I can find something better, then great, but replacement isn't mandatory. (8 instances)
Red = Looking for something to replace what I have currently. (11 instances)

We'll then take this one passage at a time.
It will be along the lines of: "Page XXX (where Bella _____description_____)- Need a 2:15 to 2:45 song that has some of the following qualities: uplifting, slow, apologetic, minor key, echoing."

Would this make it easier?

Think that is a very organised and great idea. (I love organisationà.
I haven't come around to actually do this and read Twilight on your music, cause of time issues and other books that have to be read. But I do know Twilight by hear almost and I do have quit a big knowledge of music if I can say so, so this idea sounds wonderfull and I'll step in with suggestions where I can! :)

Thanks Lieziewiezie! I'll be happy for the help!

I'll have the revised Twilight list up shortly. In some of the instances where there is more than one song for a passage, I've finally chosen and removed the other one from the list here and also removed it from the playlist.com playlist. Also, I think you'll all mostly find that the songs in red on this list are ones where the song that I had originally chosen out of my iTunes library isn't on playlist.com - which is the main reason why I'm trying to find a replacement!

I'm baaack. Sorry that took a little longer than expected. (This was supposed to be up on Friday night, but I ran into technical difficulties...)

REVISED TWILIGHT BOOK SOUNDTRACK

I changed the color coding so there wasn't any yellow. It will be easier for me to post and easier for you to read. :D

 Green = Love it. Not looking to replace it.
:) Black = satisfied with song/scene matching.
:| Orange = Would like to find a substitute.
:x Red = Need to replace NOW. (Notice that there are none of these on this particular list anymore)
 Blue = Have replaced what was there and need feedback on the replacement choice. If you've already gone through the list already, please review these revisions to see if you concur.

To Bear and others who were looking for more classical or music without words: I've put in some classical music for scenes where what's being said by the characters really is so important that having lyrics over it was distracting even to me. That and I found a great Chopin Nocturne that, while it is NOT Bella's lullaby, I think plays well over the scene where he is playing Bella's lullaby for her at the Cullen's house.

All changes in Blue are reflected on playlist.com, so have at it! http://www.playlist.com/user/41516318

As I said in the earlier post, I've taken out all of the instances where there was more than one song for the scene just to make it simpler to listen to.

 Also, I've put in BOLD any instances where you have to start or end the track manually, like where the track is a hidden track so it "starts" halfway through the track or where I only intended to play the first 1:30 of it and then another song takes over. There are only those two instances.

Revised New Moon Book Soundtrack

(Just to wrap up the edits before I start on Eclipse).

I feel a lot more certain about my song choices on this book/list.
So:
 Green = Love it. Not looking to replace it.
:) Black = satisfied with song/scene matching (but if you've got a really cool idea, I'll definitely take the suggestion.
:| Orange = Would like to find a substitute/open to suggestions
 Blue = Have replaced what was there and need feedback on the replacement choice. If you've already gone through the list already, please review these revisions to see if you concur.
I don't think anyone (other than Jettabugfox :D ) has gone through this one, so disregard the blue if you haven't.

There's 4 instances of having a choice of 2 songs for a single passage. These are in bold so that as you go though it you can vote for which one you like better of the two. On most of these, one of the songs is from Stephenie's list and one is my original choice from before I had really figured out where Stephenie's songs belonged. Since I'm not about to choose my own over Stephenie's but I like mine, too, I've left both on the list for you to decide.

Also, I've put in BOLD any instances where you have to start or end the track manually.

(Edit as of Jan 23): Found a song! See page 10! Disregard the following!

Attention, Team Jacob! Check out the scene on page 373 of NM starting with "Jake stared after him for a minute, then came to sit on the floor beside me again." It's the last Bella/Jacob scene before Alice shows up! Need a 3minutes 30seconds song (or between 3:20 and 3:40) here! Here's your chance! Speak up!

Would greatly prefer something that has the following qualities: acoustic guitar not electric; soft male voice but not overly whispery; but no "raising voices" at all during the song; last minute of song needs to be a bit more heady and not take forever to end (to be able to meld well with having "Imaginary" by Evanescence follow it as soon as Alice's scent hits Jacob.) Also, IMHO the scene evokes a gentle wistfulness and bittersweetness to it that makes me wish I could just play "Unintended" back to back and be done with it.
I have come up with at least 5 or 6 different substitutes on my own, but none of them are on playlist.com (razzlefrazzlerewk;vniu;gnrejui;bnudgheuagnkfdnv; grr. )

So any ideas?

Is there even any interest left on this or have I gone too far off the deep end?

Edit: as of Jan 27th, 2009: Substituted on page 102: Took out "Please Please Please" by Fiona Apple (for no other reason than the right version isn't on playlist.com) and put in "Nobody's Home" by Avril Lavigne. See my post on page 10 as to why this works despite it being a "pop" song.

Also substituted: Page 109 - took out "Stuck with Me" by Green Day and put in "Slipping Away" by Sum 41.

Both of these are now in blue.

Edit as of Jan 29, 2009: Substituted out "Tantum Ergo" (a Gregorian Chant) with "Interlude, Pt 1" by Chiodos for the Prologue.

Edit as of August 17th, 2009: Took out "Radio War" by Iron & Wine and "Bent" by Rob Thomas and put instead to cover both areas: "Bells For Her" by Tori Amos for page 367.
Also, substituted "Long Way Home" by Norah Jones with "Long Way Home" by Tom Waits for page 400. It's just a different cover of the same song.

Edit as of September 27th, 2009: Took out "Resurrection Fern" by Iron and Wine and put in "Exogenesis: Part 3 (Redemption)" by Muse for page 508.

I like both the songs, especially the lyrics. :D However, I've already got that scene "set in stone" so to speak. Plus, the songs I chose for that scene are both from Stephenie's playlist, so they're even less movable than they otherwise would be. (My reason for this is that NM and BD are the two playlists where she appears to have specified that the songs are in order of where they belong in the book, thus making the "puzzle pieces" aspect of this even more difficult) However, I like the songs enough that I may want to use "Wrapped In Your Arms" or "You Gave me a Promise" for one of the later books...

Is there somewhere in Eclipse or BD where you think they might fit? :?: :)
