Hahaha this discusion board makes me laugh so much!

Carlisle was always pronounced ''Carls-cee'' or ''Carlsy'' in my mind!
When I heard the correct pronounciation I laughed so hard coz it just seemed so obvs! :D

but well I still refuse to use the proper pronounciation..., He'll always be Carlsy to me... 8-)

But yeah I got Siobhan right coz well I'm Irish, I freaked when I read there was an irish coven! I was like ''oh I am soo there!''

lol.

I am so glad that someone was a genius and put this up... the first time I read Twilight I couldn't pronounce Quilleute. I don't even think that I spelled it right anyways.

But thank you so much!!! I know how to say it now! yay! :D

LOL.
I always pronounced his name CAR-lee-sul, or something close to that.
It never sounded quite right. XD

The only reason I knew how to pronounce Carlisle was because the Indiana Pacers (a basketball team) had a head coach and his last name was Carlisle.

As for a lot of the other characters, I just made them my own way since some of the names aren't as normal for me.

I didn't have much trouble with the names of people... Quileute (or however it is spelled) still gives me trouble and I have used the pronunciation key!!! Carlisle was easy for me because my Microbiology teacher in College was named Carlisle. I am from Texas and we (or at least I haven't) don't get to many Siobhan's. So on that one I, or anyone I had trouble with, I just said in my head what I thought it was. I figure it doesn't matter how you pronounce it in your head when your reading. I have read books where all the names were hard and I just said what I thought they were!!! Then you you hear what it is supposed to be, that is when you go "Oh man I was way off!!!"
It is nice to hear that I am not the only one!!!

I lived in Ireland and knew a bunch of Siobhans. Anyway, I also took an Irish myth and language class (which was AWESOME) while I was there and learned some of the rules - "bh" (and sometimes "mh") is always a "v" sound and when s is followed by a vowel, it usually sounds like a "sh".

So Siobhan = shivonne. Kinda. Haha.

So like the word we know as "shanty," being a little cabin or house, literally means that in irish because it comes from the words "sean," which means small, and "teach" (pronounced tay-ock), which means house.

Yay irish pronunciation lesson for the day! :)
