I'm almost sure that they could do just that for a short time...but the newborn army was walking. Gravity most certainly would take over without the momentum. I think that it's explained on the Twilight DVD or somewhere early on that vampires can't really fly but they can jump extraordinarily far so to a human it would look like flying. Also, it was much more menacing at least to me to see them all walking out of the water that way.

Oh no, it was pretty cool seeing them all walk out of the water all ready to kill. I am just thinking, wouldn't they want to do that over swimming? I would, I would think it would be semi faster then swimming, and maybe a little easier to track something/someone over water.

I'm pretty certain they can run over water- didn't Alice and Jasper do just that in BD? (At least, that's what I gathered the way Sam tells it.)

However for EC's purposes, running over water = very conspicuous. Especially when you have roughly 20 barely-in-control vampires doing it.

I don't know if this fits, but are there any theories if a male hybrid and a female hybrid had a child, it would obviously be a full on hybrid(half human, half vampire, because of his/her parents being half and half), but how would the birth go, considering that female hybrids are immortal?

I was thinking about Vampires speed after watching Eclipse this morning and thought; Since Vampires can move so fast, why can't they run across water like the Basiliscus Lizard can? They have the speed, so why not run on top of it instead of swim?
Running across water would be impossible for vampires. The motion of running on top of the water wouldn't be constant like a propeller is. It wouldn't have a rythm and each movement the legs make wouldn't be equal. The Basuliscus lizard has "flaps between its toes" that act as propellers, but vampires don't have that and they are more than likely wearing shoes, making it less aero-dynamic (would that be it? Aero-dynamic? Or is there a word on that pertaining to water?). The lizard has also adapted to its enviroment while vampires do not have those kind of adaptions for water. They are land dwellers!

A propeller isn't constant, but rapid repetition. It chops through water with each blade pushing against the liquid and giving the vehicle propulsion.

The aforementioned lizards have webbed feet, like swimming flippers/fins. This allows them to distribute their weight over a greater surface area. All they need to do is run fast enough so that they "run" on the surface tension of the water instead of pushing through it.

I'm inclined to believe that TW vampires can manage this feat. The only thing the lizards have that they don't, are the webbed toes. But they've certainly got the speed- though I think they won't be as smooth as the lizards. (I picture them creating a wake the way a speedboat does.)

Okay, I'm a bad mod. Really. This is a serious discussion, and the whole running on water thing is worth discussing. Unfortunately, I tend to get mental images when I read stuff, and, well. THIS is the image that the whole conversation gave me. Sorry. Now you can go back to being serious. ;)

laugh out loud!!!! where did you find that? XD

anyway, i had this random idea about blood types. I know certain blood types can only take/transfuse certain types of blood.
And i wondered if maybe this would effect vampires? i mean, if they were a certain blood type when they were human, does that mean they could only drink certain blood as a vamp?

Doubtful, since transfusions only require knowledge of blood types because certain types don't play well together.

Vampires by definition have no blood of their own, so there's nothing to mix.

When you put it that way, I lean towards your theory. It definitely wouldn't be a smooth; I imagine them tripping a few times if they run on water. The swimming thing would be less noticeable and better for them to be inconspicuious, you know?
