I went to Stratford's Shakepearean festival and saw several plays, Merchant of Venice being one of them. Now I sort of wish I hand't fallen alseep during it

shakespeare is definetely a genius. the last section with the court scene was masterfully done - i really think that the way it played out was genius - the word play and the way that Portia twisted things to make it the solution that the predominently christian crowd would enjoy was brillaint.

so i have a question for those of you who have read the play. do you think Shylock is all villian, or can he be identified as a victim as well?
