I love the ties between New Moon and Romeo and Juliet. The whole part about how Edward thinks that Bella is dead is so remininiscent of Romeo and Juliet. I also think that the fued between the Capulets and Montegues is really similar to the seemingly inabilty for humans and vampires to live together. Any other thoughts.

Definitely! I think that the New Moon ending (the same as the ballet version of R&J), with both of them still alive, is so much more satisfying, though. =] Also, Juliet trying to fake her death to her family and friends was a little foreshadow for later books, I thought ...

The ages of the characters are very relevant, too – many people associate R&J with true love, the real thing, no questions asked. Bella & Edward are also quite young, so by running the R&J parallel, it's like Stephenie is saying that this is possible, this can happen when you're still at such a young age. We can take the story more seriously; it helps to remove the "obsession" factor from our minds, I think. What does everyone else think?

Nice! I didn't notice the foreshadowing of Bella faking her death.

There was also the bit og how Tybalt was a relation of Juliet that attemped to kill Romeo. Jasper was a relation to Edward who attempted to kill Bellla.

That is a wonderful quote! I remember I read it in R and J and was only somewhat impressed; it wasn't my favorite quote. However, when used in connection to NM it was simply perfect!

I think it was brilliant that Stephanie used some Romeo and Juliet theme to the second book.

It is pure genius.

I love how the book ran parallel to R & J the whole time and I love that they were watching it in the beginning. I also like that Jacob was the "Paris" in love with Juliet/Bella but her heart is somewhere else.

OFF TOPIC WARNING
did anyone notice the typo in NM? Bella is thinking about what is Rosaline gave Romeo the time of day but it says Rosalind :D

I like that SM tied in R&J to NM, especially with the Juliet/Paris thing. It made me understand more where Bella was coming from.
