I didn't realise that I'd never posted here before... time to change that!
At the moment, Jasper is my favourite Twilight character.
I love his mysterious-ness :D

God, I wish we knew more about him.

If I ever learn about the Civil War I want to write a fic in his POV. for sure.

I think that would be a great read- everything from his enlisting in the army, to being changed, the vampire wars and eventually leaving Maria- encontering Alice, and meeting up with the Cullens. :D

Personally- Me and My mate noticed he had sex hair :D

Jasper, the blond haired, golden eyed wonder! He's gorgeous and protective and makes everyone swoon. He has intelligence and is witty and funny. But i just think he owns everyone! Maybe im biased

He was changed during the Civil War (don't remember exactly what year and my friend has my copy of Eclipse)
He was about 17 or 18 at the time so he may be slightly older than Edward as far as his human life I'm not sure.
But he is definately older when you total his entire existence. He was a vampire 40 years before Edward was born.
He's the oldest Cullen next to Carlisle.
(although technically Esme was 26 when she changed so shes lived the longest human)
technecaly jasper joined the confederate army just after he turned 16 but his military corrier was short lived but if you go on new moons offical site his D.O.B. and when he was changed seggests that he was about 20 years old :)

***WARNING, I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT MIDNIGHT SUN. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED***
So I'll admit, I'm not Jasper's biggest fan, but nor do I despise him. He's just...there to me.
I've also recently re-read MS, and in one part Edward says that Jasper is only there for Alice, and that she is the only reason he's lasted so long.
That's sweet and stuff, and Jasper did go through a lot, he was the only Cullen to go through such a bloody life. But part of me is...disgusted? too strong, uneasy would be the better word, about that. I wonder how much of the vegetarian lifestyle is him and how much is Alice. He did want a less destructive lifestyle, but I wonder if he would have been like Peter and Charlotte if Alice hadn't arrived. I wonder if he would have given a vegetarian lifestyle a try if he randomly came across the Cullens.

Well, to be honest, he never knew the possibility existed. He's fed on humans from day one; I imagine it's sort of like having someone who loves red meat and telling him he can live off tofu. It boggles the mind.

That being said, while Alice gave him the knowledge that it is possible, and encouragement to keep going, the seeds for wanting to change were already there inside him. We know he got turned off from all the killing- so much so that he actually tried to feed less. For someone who didn't know all of his options, that's quite an accomplishment. To continue with the above example, imagine that same guy eating half or even a fourth of what he's used to eating.

Here is Jasper's perspective from New Moon p. 300.

"I traveled with Peter and Charlotte for a few years getting the feel of this new, more peaceful world. But the depression didn't fade. I didn't understand what was wrong with me, until Peter noticed that it was always worse after I'd hunted.

"I contemplated that. In so many years of slaughter and carnage, I'd lost nealy all of my humanity. I was undeniably a nightmare, a monster of the grisliest kind. Yet each time I found another human victim, I would feel a faint prick of remembrance for that other life. Watching their eyes widen in wonder at my beauty, I could see Maria and the others in my head, what they had looked like to me the last night that I was Jasper Whitlock. It was stronger for me -- this borrowed memory -- than it was for anyone else, because I could feel everthing my prey was feeling. And I lived their emotions as I killed them.

"You've experienced the way I can manipulate the emotions around myself, Bella, but I wonder if you realize how the feelings in a room affect me. I live every day in a climate of emotion. For the first century of my life, I lived in a world of bloodthirsty vengeance. Hate was my constant companion. It eased some when I left Maria, but I still had to feel the horror and fear of my prey.

"It began to be too much.

"The depression got worse, and I wandered away from Peter and Charlotte. Civilized as they were, they didn't feel the same aversion I was beginning to feel. They only wanted peace from the fight. I was so wearied by killing -- killing anyone, even mere humans."

I had forgotten till I looked this up just how much Jasper's victims' emotions affected him. I'd be willing to bet that eventually, he might have discovered a "conscience," too--just as the Denali vampires had.

Yes, it was. Sorry. My head was elsewhere, and it was past my bedtime!
