Okay, here we go again! Jamie in The Host was so adorable and I just immediately fell in love with him, because he was so cute and charming and sweet and optimistic...
And then I found out he was either 12 or 14! I KNOW 12-year-olds, and they are most certainly not like that. Being part of an anti-alien group stuffed into a cave in the middle of a desert and always on the run for their lives should make him *angrier* and more *sullen* and *angsty*, if anything. It's unbelievable.
Now, Seth is 15 in Eclipse? Is this a joke?
Maybe SMeyer's wishful thinking is getting in the way of her reality— okay, it *really* is, because— (sorry, this is making me kind of angry now!)
15-year-old boys are not sweet and clueless like that. They don't live in a blissful world. Being a werewolf should make him angrier and more sullen and angsty if anything (sound familiar?).
The majority of 14-year-old boys (I remember very clearly) had: (pick all that apply)
A) already had sex
B) were so completely broody, used the f-word in every other sentence
C) carried condoms in their pockets (just in case)
D) did drugs, smoked
E) drove illegally
F) got drunk
G) watched porn
H) All of the Above
NONE of them. NONE were these sweet little raggamuffins, always optimistic, never sullen, putting up with the teasing comments thrown at them.

Re: Seth Clearwater
Amivera, how can you say EVERY SINGLE 15 year old is like that? some can be different so Seth was made different. you shouldn't be so narrow minded about 15 year olds. (I'm just saying...)
anyway, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Seth. =) <3 he's sooooooo adorable! I would love to be in Jacobs shoes so I could hear his thoughts. When Sam was ordering Seth to fight the cullens, I actually cried because the way Seth reacted (I'm a whimp... lol )

Re: Seth Clearwater
I just recently fell in love with Seth's character. I liked him when I first read the books. Now that I am finishing my second reading - I just love Seth. Love, love, love him. He is a fantastic character and just about the sweetest boy ever.

ahh amivera! that post made me so mad!
not all fifteen year old boys are like that! i would know, i spend the vast majority of my time with them.
agreed, they are not as sweet and kind and naive as seth, he's just as unrealistic as the portrait you portrayed in your post!

death cannot stop true love, it can only delay it for a while...
Re: Seth Clearwater
I can safely say that the majority 15-year-old boys have done one of the A-H that I listed, whether you know about it or not.
Seth appeared to be under ten to me, so I was extremely shocked to find out he was actually fifteen. It seemed more like wishful thinking than an accurate portrayal.

Re: Seth Clearwater
haha! but seriously, i don't know what boys you are hanging out with, but that's not all of them. at all. 15 year old boys are just as diverse and complex as 15 year old girls.

Re: Seth Clearwater
Ah, you're right, you're right. I just switched from private school to public school so I'm a bit thrown off by how much rowdier the boys are here. It changes my views.
I still do think, however, that Seth's age and his completely carefree (wish a guy was so happy-go-lucky) personality is wishful thinking— and not too accurate.
ETA: Okay, so I just realized (right after posting) that the entire BOOK is wishful thinking, so little Seth being unrealistic is the least of our problems. XD
