Chapter 24 ~ An Impasse

Given everything we learn from Edward about the fact that he was able to stop from drinking Bella's blood, but that he didn't like how she smelled when she had a transfusion, what does that say about his control over the way he thirsts for her blood? Do you think drinking her blood makes it easier or harder for him to resist now?
I think he got better, because he knew that he had stopped before, and he would be able to do it again. He was more sure of himself and his control.
2. Edward admits that Alice has seen Bella as a vampire. Why do you suppose, since he of all people knows it's crazy to deny Alice's visions, that he is so resistant to giving in and changing Bella?
He doesn't want to believe Alice's visions. He won't let Bella be a vampire, and nothing she can do will make him change his mind. He just supposes she will eventually realize she should stay human.
3. Bella begs Edward to never leave her. Although he never exactly promises NOT to leave her, he does say it would be impossible for him to even try. Knowing what we know about New Moon, do you think he was saying this as a way to tide Bella over and keep her calm for now? DO you think he had plans even at this point in the story to one day leave her?
I think he eventually supposed he would leave. He didn't think he would be able to stay forever, unless things were peaceful, but it didn't look good so far. He did calm her down, but he didn't think he needed to leave. He wanted to stay too much, and until New Moon he sees no reason to leave her. Maybe this is the only time she will be in danger because of him.
4. Bella and Edward argue about her becoming a vampire, to which he point blank says that he will never do that to her. When I first finished reading Twilight, I was very torn over whether or not Bella should become a vampire. How did you feel at this point? Try to ignore all the discussions you've had here at the lex and focus on your first initial reaction. Did you think Bella should be changed right away and leave her family and life behind, or did you think Edward was being sensable to tell her that her mortality was important and more natural than anything he could give her?
I thought she should be a vampire. I wanted her to leave everything and be immortal with him forever. In real life, I might actually do that. This isn't real..but just with the story the way it is, that's what I wanted. I was stubborn about it too. She HAD to be a vampire.

I think the comment he makes about the transfusion was just that she didn't smell like her for a while. Even tho he has his doubts I think that it makes it easier for him having tasted it and finding the power to stop.

DO you think he had plans even at this point in the story to one day leave her? I think he was just trying to calm her down at the time. Knowing what I know about New moon doesn't make me think that he had plans to leave her someday just that if he continued to put her in danger he would have not choice but to leave. STUPID MAN!!!

I've said before that I was very disappointed that he he had no plans to change her . I mean how in the world would they be able to be together if she wouldn't some day be changed??? I wanted very badly for her to be changed. And up until this point I thought she would be After the Epilogue I began to have my doubts as to whether it would.

As for after if it made it easier or harder. I think it would still be the same. For one he knows he could stop, so that would make it easier, but on the other hand, he knows what it tastes like, and he said it was better than what he thought, so that would make it harder. That is how I get the same, one part became easier while another became harder, it all balances out.

He wants Bella to live a happy normal life and does not want to take that away. He also knows that Alice's visions are subjective and can change with decisions made by the key players. Since he does not know why or how Bella becomes a vampire in Alice's visions, he probably thinks it was something he did wrong. So he is going to do everything he can to prevent it.

DO you think he had plans even at this point in the story to one day leave her? As soon as I read this I knew he would leave her sooner or later, and I knew nothing about any of the other books. I was devastated when he did, but knowing how Stephanie writes and reading the books now 3 times, she does not just put thing sin for no reason, she always has a reason.

I was very upset by this, I wanted Bella to become a vampire. I saw the movie first and needed to know if she would become a vampire, no one would tell me so I read the books. I personally always thought she should be with Edward as a vampire.

i think that now its out there, that he does start considering it. not strongly, but slowly the option and logic makes itself known.

i was like "oh puh-leas!! just change her and get it over with! alice has seen it and that is that!"

1.i think he is more in control now, but on whether its harder or easier to resist - i dont know. its easier in the way that he knows he can stop but also harder because he knows how good her blood is

2. because edward is just stubborn. and all the stuff about souls and heaven ect. tbh, sometimes i swear he's just being akward for the hell of it

4. i really didnt want bella to become a vampire st that time in the series. there was just so much that hadnt happened yet. it was way to early for her to change

I think that it could have been harder for him. But he stopped! He LOVES her! He's even amazed with himself about being able to stop. "I must love you." he says.

Well, that is explained in all of the books. He doesn't want that future for her. He wants so much for her.

I think he was saying it to calm her, she was really harmed. And I don't think he'd imagined that he had to leave her someday, as in New Moon. But also, Edward just had seen Bella, the love of his existence, get almost killed because of what he is! That just makes him think that he is a danger to her.

I guessed that at some point she was going to become a vampire. But I understood Edward's opinion. I don't know. I just wanted to get New Moon and see what happened next!

I imagine that it's a lot easier for him to resist.. or maybe harder, but after what they went through, he knows the feeling of losing her so it might make him easier to resist. He still very much is attracted to her scent and other peoples blood made it smell different..

He knows her visions aren't set in stone. They don't have to be like that. He doesn't want to take her soul.

I've read New Moon.. so I know that he does leave her one day.. but Edward cares so much for Bella that he does want to leave her.. that's why he won't promise. He dewlls on the bad things that happen to her and blames himself. He would cause himself so much pain to be away from her so she wouldn't get hurt.. (or so he thinks haha )

She loves him. He is her soulmate. Even if she did grow old they would always stay together. I thought that he should turn her into a vampire... Eventually Charlie and Renee would have passed and she still would have been alive.. as long as she was willing to give everything up to Edward,.. and knowing all the details and things that go along with it... I think he should change her!

I don’t know. Maybe easier since he knows her taste now… And maybe easier because for few minute, he thinks he will be late. In Eclipse, that’s the fact he have taught her dead that give him enough strength to help her when she’s bleeding. And in other hand, it may be harder because he know how she tastes… Stephenie say in her correspondence that the Cullen avoids to drink human blood in any form to prevent being use to…

I think he can resolve himself to let that do. He fights against destiny, probably because he knows that the vision of Alice can be change by our decision.

He has planned to leave her since the first day he meet her. He always giving her clues that he is too dangerous for her. But, at this moment, I think he’s trying to keep her calm. He tried to stay with her from March to September. But the idea of leaving her never left…

At this moment, I don’t know… I was afraid that she will someday become much older than him… At this point we still haven’t a clue about the whole soul thing…

I think it makes it harder for him now. Edward stated that Bella was his own personal brand of heroin. If we're continuing this metaphor, it's like a recovering addict having a relapse. Instead of giving in and continuing he is able to restrain himself. Though he says after the events of New Moon that he would never allow himself to ever let her blood and his desire for it bother him.

Because he believes he is a soulless monster. He doesn't want to damn Bella to this life that he feels will not let her attain, I guess, a Christian's view of Heaven. He wants her to live out a normal human life, do all the human "rituals", and live to be old and gray with him. He also knows that people can change her minds, that Alice's visions are subjective. He thinks he can convince her to just be human.

I don't think he was placating her and trying to keep her calm. I think in the back of his head, he always knew, that if he had to he could leave her for her safety. I don't think he had a plan to leave her.

I didn't think that Bella should be turned right then. Edward was right in that moment because maybe she would change her mind or find out that being a vampire isn't as mysterious as it seems.
