I loved kristen in other movies ( Into the Wild and Speak) so i have to blame it on the director.. Rob and Jasper were both VERY weird too so i have to say bad directing.
-Ok, if you're going to criticize the movie or actors, at least pay attention. With regards to the contention above that "she wasn't very clumsy" I offer this refutation:
I saw the following instances in the movie showing or alluding to Bella's clumsiness (one of her endearing qualities).
1-Hitting MIke with the volleyball
2-Hitting Jacob with truck door
3-Slipping on ice in front of house
4-Tripping during biology class field trip in the greenhouse
5-Dropping bag on kitchen floor at home when trying to hang it on a chair
6-Many allusions to her inability to dance (When Mike asks her to prom ["me, dancing, not a good idea"], in Edwards room when he twirls her ["I can't dance" with an awkward grin], the tape of her as a toddler at dance school "Mom, I suck", and at prom )
7-Dropping apple at cafeteria salad bar
8-Her mother's account (shown visually) of how Bella got injured
9-Her father saying "good luck with that" upon hearing Edward is taking her to play baseball
10-Her reluctance (and facial expression) to take pepper spray from her father.
11-Tripping in the forest scene as she and Edward walk through the rocks.
12-Falling back to the dance studio floor on Edwards first rescue attempt (OK James pulled them down, but it was typically Bella)
13. Backfiring the truck the first day she parks at school before entering.
14. In the first biology class scene, when Bella is about to pull out her chair she gives a little stumble

Are those enough times to portray her as clumsy?

wow. how many times have you seen the movie again?? um...I think that she was clumsy in the movie, I'm not worried about that at all. it's just the overall performance of the whole thing. it just sucked. :/

I liked it but then i didnt. Firstly they never said "i love you" ! I thought that was kind of the point in making the movie! To make that statement clearer! or something like that.
Secondly, Edward was so deppresed all the time! He only laughed ONCE! He might have smiled 4 times at the most. He much more exciting in the book. Ther ewas a wider aray of emotions. I thought he didnt portray Edward as well as he could have. If rob just so happens to read this, make Edward a tiny bit happier in the third one. He was very deppresing in New Moon so no problem there.
Thirdly, bella always looked confused. Her eyebrows were always set like she had no idea what anyone was talking about. Plus she went way overboard on the akwardness. She had a hard time saying stuff without stuttering or taking one big shaky breath.
I thought there was not enough of the cullens.
And lastly I thought sam screwed up his one line. " The cullens dont come here." It was rather bland to be honest.

PHEW :) I feel better now.

But i liked because
1. they had good chemistry overall
2. no matter what rob is still a great actor
3. so is kristen even though she might have slipped up alot
4. they did great with the cullens backstory
5.it fit the book almost exactly
6.if sm liked it then her opinion is most important
7. the cullens were great with portraying the characters emotion
The cullens: but of course... you already knew that.

I just want to say what I liked befor I get into what I didn't like. I liked the opening scenes, the hunt, Bella saying goodbye to Phoenix and the opening scenes of Forks. What I didn't like besides the pacing, it felt like I was watching the book in fast forward.

I can’t blame Kristen Stewart (since I have never seen her in anything else) I’m sure she is a perfectly good actress. I think most of my issues are with the screen play.

Bella seemed like she was the one that is bewildered by life. There’s being shy and self conscious and then there is stammering though life. I don’t recall a complete sentence uttered by Bella in the whole movie.

Case and point: When she was in the hospital and Charlie tells her to call her mother. When Charlie tries to talk to her about Phil (I know that she feels uncomfortable talking to Charlie about feelings) she walks out of the room with out saying anything? And then when she is in the hospital again and Edward is telling her she should go the Jacksonville I thought she was having a seizure.

When Angela, Jessica and Bella went shopping in Port Angeles and Bella says “I just really want to go to this bookstore” and then walks out I thought “why do they want to be her friend?” I thought she was rude.

What was wrong with the line “it doesn’t matter” I thought that line made the book?

I expected that they would have to cut out scenes for time, but I don’t see the added value of the new scenes. While the tree climbing add some beautiful scenery the climbing special effect was painfully bad. The money that they would have saved not adding that scene they could have added applied to the running scenes, which were in the book and also painful to watch.

The field trip? Why? “Blood type”?

I thought that the scene at the Cullen’s house when Edward was playing for Bella was creepy.

I was embarrassed for Jasper and Emmet during the garage scene when they were describing how to kill James. The lines felt like they were lifted from a “Power Rangers” script.

Being they did not know that they were going to make New Moon into a movie when they were making this one, why did they put in the scene with Victoria? Another opportunity to add minutes to the love story was lost.

Edwards makeup. He is suppose to be beautiful not Bela Lugosi.

And looking forward to New Moon. My friends and I have added to our Lexicon “Suicide by body glitter.”

Seems like everyone posting here is on the the exact same page as I am. I'm really glad I didn't see the movie before reading the books because had I done the reverse, I probably wouldn't have bothered to read the books at all. The movie had no real flow what so ever. I felt like they just plucked out whatever they felt to be important in the book and then shot them in order. There was no cohesiveness to the movie what so ever and I felt like it was all over before I even had a chance to settle into my seat. I understand that it was a low budget movie, but hey, so was The Matrix. I sincerely hope that the director that's coming on for New Moon will do better then his predecessor.

I'm usually over here defending Kristen's portrayal of Bella, but the assertion above that Edward "laughed once and smiled 4 times at most" deserves a rebuttal. I've seen this film maybe 10 times now (It's his obsession, he's never gonna stop!), and being a stickler for details, consider all the following times (in no particular order) Edward laughs/smiles:
1. In the 2nd biology class scene when Bella comments that she doesn't like any cold, wet thing; and when Bella says "you're asking me about the weather."
2. In the restaurant when he says to Bella "I tell you I can read minds, and you think there is something wrong with you"
3. Outside the restaurant in the scene with Jessica and Angela before he and Bella go inside.
4. In the scene when he invites Bella over to meet his family.
5. In the kitchen scene at his house.
6. At prom, multiple times
7. In Edward's room when he says "you really shouldn't have said that"
8. When he says to Bella "Hold on spider monkey"
9. In the tree scene
10. After he says to Bella "It wouldn't be like eating your blood"
11. In the school parking lot when he escorts Bella to class.
12. In the baseball scene when he collides with Emmit going after the ball.
13. Just before boarding the bus in the school parking lot to go on the field trip
14. In car when Bella tells him to put on his seat belt.
15. In Bella's bedroom when she gets off the phone.
16. At Jessica in the cafeteria when he reads her mind.
Those are the times that come to mind.

Baseball scene, being my favorite out of the times Edward smiles. He just looks so innocent, and cute, and carefree. Almost like a human 17 year old boy. And for me, that is the perfect example of how Edward, despite being a century old vampire, still has the innocence of a boy. Absolutely *dazzling*. (sighs)

Also, somebody mentioned previously all the times Bella acts clumsy. I watched the movie again after reading that and was laughing out loud when she drops her backpack on the floor instead of landing on the chair, in the kitchen scene with Chief Swan. The girl is indeed clumsy.

Yes, please take the other half off. xoxo
