Some of the effects looked cheap since it was a low budget movie but the effects have gotten better with part 2.

I don't think it was bad for the amount of money they had. The sparkle skin never bothered me since it looked like diamonds which is what Bella describes. I will say though after seeing NM I like how they did it better there and hopefully they keep it settle.
