I would really like it if they had some new people, fresh faces, not a bunch of people we've seen a million times before. I just think it would be interesting to see who they might find in an open audition. Plus, I don't think models do very well when they try to act!

When I saw Penelope last night I found out that "Max" was James McAvoy and he also played Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Now, I think I agree with those people who said James McAvoy should be Jared! I was also reading The Host (again) last night and as I read Wanda's dream of the first time Mel and Jared met, James just popped into my head and took over that role (with great pleasure, I might add  ). I can't believe that after the searching, my Jared was right in front of me!

Wow, I love your choice for Ian! Perfect.

I'd sugest Emilie de Ravin for Wanda in her body:

For Melanie, I picture her like a cool beauty, like Eliza Dushku

I don't really have a good picture of Jared in my mind. However, the closest I can get it's of Jared Padalecki, from Supernatural.

Just a question: Does SM ever give a racial classification for the characters? I've only read it once, but everyone is picking white people. Anyway I think Lucy Lu or Kelly Hu (Deathstrike in X2) would be amazing as Melanie. They both can totally pull off the tough part of Melanie's personality. I couldnt find a good pic of Lucy Lu, but here is Kelly Hu as Deathstrike

her eyes almost look like Wanda is in there ;)

I also think Sanaa Lathan (Love and Basketball) could pull off Melanie.

I cant think of anyone for Jared right now. For some reason when I tried just now, all I could of was Dwight Johnson (The Rock) :D But for Ian I like the idea of Justin Bartha. In some of his other movies (Failure to Launch and National Treasure) he has this great sarcastic wit. Think that same tenor would be exellent for Ian

agreed. I can't stand it when they throw in a model to do a part simply for publicity and fame reasons...
I also really enjoy watching actors i've never seen before- and being that SM's books are so different i'd find it fitting to have new faces come on the screen if The Host was ever made into a film

i totally agree with the person that suggested eliza dushku for melanie. i think they would need someone tough and smart-looking. megan fox seems a bit too "maxim" to me. i think even someone like natalie portman or kiera knightly would do a good job.
