The ending was too happy for my liking. I mean, everything just resolved itself, and they all lived happily ever after! I kinda wish it had ended with Wanda getting taken out of Mel, even though that part made me cry. They all seemed to get off really lightly, not losing anything. That's just my opinion though, I loved the rest of the book.
I don't think there'll be a sequel either, though it would be nice.

Happily ever after? Hardly. They're still trapped in the caves.

Theyre not trapped in the caves, they just have to live there for now.

It would probably be so easy for them to live in the open as well, the souls arent exactly suspicious (think to when mel lures pet into the alley) so im sure if they just walked around being all friendly etc no-one would bother them. imagine how much they could do then! they could do pretty much whatever they wanted :D

Yea, but all it would take is one slip-up with a soul seeing their eyes and they're all doomed.

Either way, whether you consider it trapped in the caves or just living there for the time being... the fact still remains that though there is so much hope at the end for them to survive, even though there is still sadness because of the reality that souls need to take lives in order to live, no matter how kind they are. Pet was still a life that was lost somewhere in the past and you have to be sad that that is a human life that would never be lived.
However, i think its true that the humans are only living in the caves for now.... They may have to live in the caves but the next generation won't. If you remember the souls that had the fully human child... eventually there will be humans living amongst souls that were raised by souls and the next generation of cave raised humans will really only have to learn how to act very nice and the fact that they're human will not be an issue at all. Eventually they could all sort of insinuate themselves among humans slowly...

Jus finished The Host like 2 days ago... the ending was surely just thrown upon me I must say! I was so ready to just bawl my eyes out when Wanderer was just going to be buried. Then all of a sudden... blank pgs and another chapter!?! It was a pretty cute ending though; that's just SM though. It doesnt seem like she wants to disappoint people by leaving their fav characters all lonely. I couldn't picture the new body right, though. It seemed like a wrong fit :( Wanderer is supposed 2 b this majestic soul who's been here, there, and everywhere and now she's just stuck in this kid's body? The body seems waaaay too young, for her and for everyone else. I have it pictured that Ian's in his late 20's, early 30's and she's like 17? And she's also almost as young as Jamie? WHAT??? That's no fun lol

Stephenie Meyer never had any of that at the end of her books.

No, I didn't at least. Even if your friend wanted to die, would you let them commit suicide? NO. So I knew that someone would save Wanda.
