2 summers ago I read Stardust. I really liked it. I picked it up because I saw the movie was coming out soon. I read the book fairly quickly. I forced KNE to take me to see the movie. The movie had hardly anything at all to do with the book. MAJOR changes. Sienna Miller's character was supposed to mary the old store owner. Her marriage to him illustrates her shallow-ness and lack of warmth. Instead in the movie she ends up with younger man. She was portrayed in a more positive light in the movie.

Also, I don't recall Robert DeNiro's character being so *flamboyant* in the book. The ending was also very different. I recommend the book...not the movie.

Yay! Im excited for this thread (I dont even read that much)

So Im pretty excited for the new movie Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. Has anyone read that book or seen the trailer?

I like Kat Dennings as Norah, but Im kinda iffy on Michael Cera as Nick.

I was also wondering if anyone who has read the book can give me some quotes, Im trying to finish a banner & I dont have the book.

I thought that the recent Lord of The Rings trilogy was a great adaptation of the book(s). It was one book, but it was broken down into three parts for the movies and you can also find the book in three parts now. The extended versions of the movies are extremely accurate. The only flaw most people find with the movies is the absence of Tom B. I don't think he really added to the movie, but it would've been interesting to see Tom onscreen. Frodo's age and also the time lapse from when Bilbo gives Frodo the ring and where Frodo sets off in his journey were also changed, but those ideas don't seem trivial in the overall plot. Peter Jackson was committed to bring this book to film, I thought it was the best adaptation yet- both for LOTR and for book to movie adaptations.

i'm going to go back about 20+ years with this one, but after reading "The Outsiders" a million times and then seeing the movie, oh, a million times, it is one of my favourite adaptations. It was so true to the book that I was able to pretty much recite the movie the first time I saw it.

I HATED the adaptation of "The Nanny Diaries" with a passion. They took a great book and, well, ruined it. I had been so excited to see it, and was so disappointed by the end of it.

I'm not looking forward to the adaptation of the first Shopaholic book to film because the original is about a British girl living in England and now, all of a sudden, in the movie she's from New York? That's not right. I hate to hate it before it comes out, but if the preview is indicative of what the movie will be like then i'm not going to bother seeing it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the adaptation of "Trainspotting" which was a hard book to work from. That movie is as brilliant as it is disturbing.

I am looking forward to seeing the adaptation of "The Stone Angel" when it comes out.

My friend Lesley Crewe's first book, "Relative Happiness" is going to be turned into a movie. She was working on the screenplay this summer. I'm really looking forward to checking that out because I loved the book so much.

The Outsiders I actually dreaded reading in English class, but I read it in like a day & loved it & the movie was amazing.

Then just about every girl (who was insane) in the 8th grade had a crush on Ponyboy.

It was a pretty good movie adaption because they kept everything pretty much the same.

I am just now reading the Harry Potter books, but it's funny cause whenever I finish a book, I watch the movie and compare them.

They are all pretty close to the actual books, but of course, the books are WAY better. They are so much more descriptive.

JK Rowling is an amazing author, but the movies have been getting disappointing.

She had to step in on #5 & tell them they need to remember to include more of the smaller things as they grow bigger in the series.

Deathly Hallows is supposed to be 2 movies & Im kinda glad because they couldnt fit all the good stuff into a 2 hour movie (most of them are about that long).

Anne of Green Gables...
1. The first movie was only the first book, and they stuck to the book wonderfully. I was satisfied with it.
2. The second movie combined 2 or 3 books, and things were mixed up, but mostly stuck to the main story of the characters. Then, things just got crazy for the 3rd movie!
3. The third movie... I can't EVEN begin to explain my disappointment! I think the only thing they got right was Anne and Gilbert getting married and Diana with kids... WW1 took place in the books with A&G's kids, not themselves. I have only watched this one once, and I doubt I'll watch it again, it was that disappointing! I'd rather they hadn't made a 3rd one, because it just messed up the whole thing for me!

These books are amazing pieces of literature, and the stories are so fabulous! I recommend reading the books before seeing the movies.

I'm so excited for Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist! From what I've seen in the trailers, the movie is hardly like the book at all. It still has the theme of them going on a date and doing all this crazy crap in the span of one night, but a lot of stuff in the trailers isn't even close to what happens in the book. They got Nick's Yugo right, though It still looks hilarious. It always makes me SOO mad, because I can't remember Thom's boyfriend's name for the life of me!
