Should this be in the dating thread? Or does it not matter? :?

M'kayy. so my bestie want's to get me to know her cousin. (And possibly date her) She's really cute, but she is really shy, I don't know anything about her besides her shyness and that her favorite band is Mindless Self Indulgence and that she loves Death Note (Pretty awesome if you ask me) So, how do I start a conversation with her, without it being awkward?

Just be really outgoing. I'm not much of a shy girl myself, but my friend is kind of like the girl you described- pretty and shy. Whenever guys try to talk to her, I notice it works best when they're really upbeat and outgoing. Just because she's shy doesn't mean she wants you to be quiet around her. That might even bother her a little. Try talking about Mindless Self Indulgence. If she's as much into music as I am, then she will LOVE you for bringing up her favorite band in a conversation. Chances are that will start her talking. Hope I helped!

just be really friendly and nice. you could hum one of the songs that her favorite band sings, that way she will hear you and then start a convo!!

Girls ARE confusing, and that's why us guys spend most of our lives trying to figure them out. Pretty much all I can say is, be yourself and don't try too hard! Every day of your life and every relationship will teach you a little bit more. If you start to try too hard, you'll end up driving yourself insane. Have fun, be respectful, be yourself, and things will fall into place with the ladies.

Besides just bringing up her favorite band, bring up Death Note if you know enough about it. The way my...well significant other i guess you can call him got me really talking was when he brought up Bleach, my favorite show. I'm really loud and excitable when i'm with my friends but when it comes to a guy i clam up. From there the conversation just got around to other things but its best to start it off with a topic she'll be comfortable with.

Maybe she's just really shy one-on-one? She may be different in a more social situation with a couple people; It sets a different tone. I think it helps with feeling pressured too, a more relaxed atmosphere means both of you wouldn't have to try so hard to talk to each other. Why don't you set something up with a couple friends, and casually bring it up? If you're worried about the inital conversation, I think your best friend can help you set up the right time and place. Good luck!

Hey, it works both ways. :P I think that everyone tries to act like girls are more difficult to understand than guys, or that guys are more difficult to understand than girls. The truth is, people in general can be really weird and unpredictable. XD

The thing is, it takes a really long time to get to know a person to the point where you can really make a committment. Everyone has a ton of sides to them, and it's important to know and accept every side before a committed relationship can be formed. Of course, dating is a way to get to know a person. But people will always surprise you.

I'm a girl and girls confuse me sometimes, like the girl I sit with at lunch. I just met her this year, she's a freshman (which I don't look down on her for) and I was very glad she accepted me so easily since all my friends have a different lunch time then me. But she confounds me beyond belief. She was dating this one guy who I only know by recognition in two of my classes. And, boy, she was stalker over him! She'd try to find the table he sat at, stare at him during lunch, and when he got up to move she had to know which direction he went. So I thought, "Well, with the way she is, I don't really see that relationship ending soon." But just yesterday she tells me she wants nothing to do with him: doesn't want to see, talk, or text him anymore. That caught me off guard. She was frustrated with him for some reason. Today, she tells me she ended it with him last night. Again, I'm mystified. She starts joking about him and said we should bash him. Personally, awkward moment, since I don't know the guy and I don't want to bad mouth him for no reason.

So, yeah, I'm confused and lost. I'm not the type of girl who focuses on things like boyfriends and relationships and none of my friends are like that either. I'm just going to go through this as best I can: nod when I need to and disagree when I think I should. She said something about me needing a boyfriend the other day. I hope she doesn't set me up!
