I thought that the actual reason Voldy went after Harry and his parents because of Snape. If I'm not mistaken Snape overheard Trelawney telling Dumbledore the prophecy but left before hearing the whole thing which would have lead Voldy to Neville instead of Harry.

Here's the quote: "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... Born as the seventh month dies... Born to those who thrice defied him... And the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal.. but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not.. and either must die and the hands of the other for neither can live while the other survives... The one with power the vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the sevnth month dies."

So both Neville and Harry were born on the same day and both of their parents stained Voldy's reputation as being a great wizard so he sought out to fulfill the prophecy and maybe chose Harry (like someone else mentioned) that they were both Half-Bloods.

Yeah.. Sky is right. I just reread the books a couple months ago! Snape overheard PART of the prophecy, told Voldy and then Voldy went after Harry and the rest is history! .. Misunderstandings!

hmm I was thinking about this and I was wondering....voldemort probably would have killed neville as well if hed done the job properly with harry but seeing as he hadnt...once he came back he started going after harry again but not neville, why? just to play things safe wouldnt he be going after both of them? i didnt think he heard the part of the prophecy that explains him "marking" one of them so wouldnt he still be a bit nervous about them both? i dunno, he just seems like a very thorough guy to me. also do they ever say if he tells any of his followers(besides snape) of the prophecy? that might explain why belltrix and others went after the longbottoms...

^^yeah in HBP Dumbledore explains that Voldemort didn't have any friends or people who were close to him. He also explained that prophecy was MADE true by Voldemort...if he didn't act, Harry wouldn't have felt so much animosity towards him.

I don't think I'll ever read a series better than Harry Potter.

I actually used to hate the whole idea. Loathe it, more like... and I didn't even have a reason why. It was the weirdest thing. I remember walking past a stand of trading cards at the store and thinking "Ugh, that's sick," and when we watched it in 7th grade, I sat under the tv. I don't know why!! I really don't. Our teacher read it to us in 5th grade and I didn't seem to mind it then, so I don't know wtf my problem was, lol.

Anyway, I caught the first movie on abcFamily a few summers ago (I watched it for Daniel b/c I thought he looked cute in the trailers for POA) and I was hooked by the time the movie was over. I borrowed it from my cousin and watched it again and then I read all the books up until OOTP (HBP wasn't out yet) and as soon as it came out, I read that too. I went to a DH midnight release party (one of the coolest nights of my life) and bought the book at WalMart a week later. I literally had to force myself not to read 10 chapters a day because I wanted to savor it. I was proud that I was able to drag it out for 9 whole days. :P

Lol, I remember my sister was sitting on my bed watching me read DH and suddenly she was like "Why are you being so still? You haven't moved at all." Apparently I was so absorbed I forgot to twitch, heh.

I do not think anyone else knew of the prophecy.. thats why they were all trying to get the real one. Also, they went after the Longbottoms because of what they were, The Order of the Pheonix and aurors and because he didnt like them...

I'm not sure I completely agree with this. There are a lot of books out there ;) ...BUT I do agree that I'll never read another series like HP that completely captivates my mind, body and soul(pardon the corniness). I mean literally, I used to walk and talk around my house like I was in Hogwarts! I know I'm not the only one that did that. Children all over the world used to lose their imaginations to these books(in a good way. that was worded weird). This series really has been a big blessing to children in helping to promote reading. If all authors were able to write in a way like JKR that made kids WANT to read, we wouldn't have nearly as many literacy problems.

That being said, I'm still ashamed to say I STILL haven't read "Tales of Beedle the Bard" What the heck right? It's just sitting on the shelf. :(
