I used to be able to drink both. There wasn't much coffee I could take unadulterated (certainly NOTHING out of Starbucks or Seattle's Best--copious cream and sugar, there, with maybe some irish creme and mint if it's strong enough to defeat the first two), but my then-local Baskin-Donuts had coffee that was worth crossing town for. The perfect roast with no acidic aftertaste, and it smelled like the dying embers of a wood fire.

Then, life intervened, and I couldn't drink coffee anymore. Sad Panda.

I took refuge in my tea collection, revelling in my personal favorite--Lapsang Souchong. It smells like a burning wood fire (which is why my mother won't let me make it when I'm visiting), and has a smooth, smoky flavor and just enough caffeine to get me through the day but not send my heart rate through the roof. My tea is my love and my consolation, and my warmth on those cold summer days when my polar-bear hubby just can't be bothered to turn up the heater.

I'm still in something of a sampling phase, but my favorite black tea has always been Lapsang Souchong. My favorite green is genmaicha (a green tea with toasted brown rice), and my favorite herbal is a lemon-wintergreen blend.

And my coffee substitute? Surprisingly, it's not the Lapsang...it's a gunpowder-style green tea with peppermint. Very strong minty smell and taste, freshens the breath while you drink it, and guaranteed to keep you awake for at least 4-5 hours. On three sips. Trust me, one mug is enough...problem is, I almost never stop at one! :D (I also like a calmer mint for help getting to sleep--long story there--but the gunpowder mint is definitely my coffee substitute. Which reminds me, I need to order more of both.)

I like coffee, but it can't be plain. It has to be in something. Then there is tea, for me (that rhymes!), it has to be warm, like chai (sp?) tea. I am very picky about my energy/relaxation drinks.

You're lucky, then, that you can drink much in the way of energy drinks! *laughs* I'm with you on tea, though; iced tea is only rarely ever done right; it either tastes like water with something leafy in it, or they put in so much sugar it's cloudy. (Don't even ask about Sweet 'n Low or those other substitutes...VERY BAD aftertaste in the mouth afterwards.) Hot tea = where it's at, no questions.

I like both. I used to only drink tea, but over the past year I've been acquiring a taste for coffee. Hehe. Now I drink it all the time :D

Strangely, though, caffeine doesn't realy wake me up, lol. :|

when my.... aunt flo visits  , I can't drink anything other than ice cark chocolate mochas and I MUST have my Jave chip ice cream!
sadly, I am NOT a tea person. I've tried SOOO many types, I just- can't.

ug. I cannot stand Starbuck's coffee. it tastes... burnt. not bitter but burnt! I don't know what it is, but now, I can't get regular coffee from them,
not to mention the obnoxious prices. a small cup of coffee is over a gallon of gas! now- that is the epitome of expensive.
"It's a Grind" is good. and we have one RIGHT near my house. its so nice. I can ride my bike there in 5 minutes!

TEA! I HAVE AN OBSESSION WITH ALL KINDS OF TEA!!!

Coffee is yucky unless it's a vanilla frappacino from Starbucks. That's the only kind of coffe related beverage I will tolerate.

That's crazy! Coffee makes me very alert. I don't know if I'm just very sensitive to caffeine or what, because if I drink more than a cup at a time, I get very jittery and my hands shake. I will pretty much refuse to drink decaffeinated coffee though. XD
