School Traditions

Okay, my grade is special, we get to have state testing every year. But at the end of it one of the musis teacher's play the Halleujah Chorus. At the end of school she plays all sorts of song like School's Out For the Summer etc. We got Decade Day where you can be like the 80's you know. WE have mix-it-up day (they try to break the cliques in school, failure). We also have Pi day, but the pie is always gone by the time I get in line(plus it tastes disgusting anyway).

Every year we have an entire week dedicated to beating our rival team. The football players all beat up on a pinata of our rival's mascot and we get all riled up. It's pretty fun.

every year, we have this thing called "The Burning of the Wolf." our mascot is the silverwolf, hense the name. we pretty much just burn an outline of a wolf and do a whole bunch of fireworks. it happens durning homecoming week, and its pretty cool.

Whenever there is a high school football game, such as homecoming or soemthing, all of the schools in the district will dress up in the team colors, and wear weird clothes that day at school. Usually every year there are streakers at the game, but this year they didn't make it to the feild, security was high.


We also have the Raider Vafe twice every year, so you can go and buy smoothies and goodies from the ninth grade FACS class. (Eighth graders can't do raider cafe, it stinks!)

We had convocation at the beginning of the school year in the church across the street; everyone attended - the upper, middle and lower schoolers. The president of the middle school student council would open up, and then the headmaster made a speech, there was the singing of our fight song... something to that effect.

We had a week of something called Winter Carnival where each grade would compete in fun games and activities, and then a lip-sync contest would be the finale. Each grade also designs a shirt/sweatshirt for points. Seniors won, obviously. =]

Another event is the student/faculty chorale, where the chorus + musical teachers perform, and we brought in a mini orchestra to accompany them. It's always held in the other church nearby, near the lower school.

Senior Skip Day is always the Monday after Prom; it's Mable Slade Vickery Day aka the day the school was founded.

Well My school doesn't really have any like interesting traditions but every easter there's an easter egg gunt for years 7&8 which is pretty fun, all the year 8's nick the year 7's tickets : P
Also we have Activity week at the end of June / begging of July. When the years 7 & 8 do two days of activities on thursday and friday, the year 9's have camp all week ( which is fricking AWSOME) and the year 10's have work experience.
And in July we have sports day at the Withdean Stadium to which the whole school goes ( minus those that bunk - and there's quite a few on sports day) which is about 3000 people and some parents come too. Almost every year it gets cancelled because of the weather and them somehow the day we it's reschedueled for ( we go whether it's bucketing or not ) is nearly always really hot - for once.

We have "Mission Week" This week which is all about "Have life to the full - John 10:10" and it's actually pretty good - I think we're gonna repeat it every 5 years or something.

Well yeh that's it. If you're American and you don't get my year stuff, which is our like grade system in the U.K, then;
Year 7 ( first year of secondary school) - age 11/12
Year 8 - age 12/13
Year 9 - age 13/14

Please can someone explain to me your grades?I just never seem to get them.

In the United States our grades go like this:
Kindergarten:5-6
1st grade:6-7
2nd grade:7-8
3rd grade:8-9
4th grade:9-10
5th grade:10-11
6th grade:11-12
7th grade:12-13
8th grade:13-14
9th grade:14-15
10th grade:15-16
11th grade:16-17
12th grade:17-18

Those are the ages.

at my school we have year 12 muck up day
on year 12's last day they pull pranks

they make you pay to get into the school
and if u dont pay you get wet
(but they donate the money to charity )

At our school all the Yr 12s dress up on Muck-Up day.

One girl came as a taco and one came as a toothbrush, and a group of guys came as tetris pieces.

Didn't see any vampires though

When it's my turn I am SO going as a food!

for christmas we have a joy day
we wear green and red, but that's not the fun part
We get to decorate our doors and the hall ways
Then at the end of the day we watch a christmas movie

sound simple, but it's better then doing work!
