you get what you give- new radicals
Hot and cold
Bought and Sold
A heart as hard as gold
Yeah! Are you satisfied?

Wish I might
Wish I may
You wish your life away
Are you pacified?

All the wants you've waste
All the things you've chased

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there's no one around

Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a thing

"King Nothing"- Metallica!

(the title is partially given in the blanks)

"Like the naked leads the blind.
I know I'm selfish, I'm unkind.
Sucker love I always find,
Someone to bruise and leave behind.

All alone in space and time.
There's nothing here but what here's mine.
Something borrowed, something blue.

Placebo--Every You Every Me.

Now to explain my lyrical selection. With all the heat that Kristen Stewart has taken in the press because of tabloid bloggers taking her words out of context, I feel that I need to call the media out, just as Greg Alexander from the New Radicals did. He wrote that verse as an experiment, to see if the media would pick up on the political issues that he referenced, or the celeb name dropping. The media ran with the name dropping, and glossed over the political issues. That, of course, irks me to say the least.

Now more lyrics that are a good metaphor for how the media tend to conduct themselves today:

No need for needles
No injections
The substance substitutes
Love and affection

Total sedation
Of burning desire
Cremation of senses
And friendly fire

Next:

Riding on the City of New Orleans,
Illinois Central Monday morning rail
Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders,
Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail.
All along the southbound odyssey
The train pulls out at Kankakee
Rolls along past houses, farms and fields.
Passin' trains that have no names,
Freight yards full of old black men
And the graveyards of the rusted automobiles.

City of New Orleans, Arlo Guthrie

I dreamed I was dieing, as I so often do
And when I awoke I was sure it was true
I ran to the window, threw my head to the sky
And said "Whoever is up there, please don't let me die"
But I can't live forever, I can't always be
Someday I'll be sand, on the beach, by the sea
The pages keep turning, I'll mark off each day with a cross
And I'll laugh about all that we've lost

That is "Always Like This" by Bombay Bicycle Club

Next:

Hark when the night is falling
Hear! hear the pipes are calling,
Loudly and proudly calling,
Down thro' the glen.
There where the hills are sleeping,
Now feel the blood a-leaping,
High as the spirits
of the old Highland men.

This is one of my fav songs:

So you finally found a way
To lessen all your pain
What you'd give to feel again
For even just the day
And as you search to find the words
For someone to relate
You realize all your faults
Were never their mistakes

Earshot--Fall Apart

She has a built-in ability
To take everything she sees
And now it seems I'm falling, falling for her

Phil Collins-Invisible Touch

If only you could see me yesterday
Who I used to be before the change
You'd see a broken heart
You'd see the battle scars
It's funny how words can't explain
How good it feels to finally break the chains
I'm not what I have done
I'm what I've overcome
