In Eclipse, after Jacob is injured and taken back home, we find out that he regains consciousness "just before the doctor left". We also know that Edward was there with Carlisle while he is treating Jake, possibly even helping, given his medical knowledge. So, that means that Edward and Jake were alone together after the kiss. Was there any kind of conversation between the two? What might have been said, if anything?
I don't know. I did not get the picture that they were alone. Carlisle was there and I felt Edward & Carlisle left together. But, if they were, Jacob was pretty doped up and even though his metabolism was burning it up at a high rate, I don't know if any coherent conversation was possible. Also, with the other guys from the pack jammed in that little room making sure Jacob was going to be okay, that too would have made any conversation regardng that kiss unlikely. Neither would have been inclined to discuss something so intense as their feelings about that in front of everybody.

That's how I see it.
I agree. I do not think Jacob and Edward talked to each other about the kiss then much less even talked. When jacob saw Bella later and mentioned how he was worried about Edward's reaction, I did not get the impression he even knew Edward was at his house earlier.

About the Twilight book cover... we know that it is a symbol of "forbidden fruit" but... whose hands are they and what are the representing...
are they...

Bella's hands holding on to the forbidden fruit?
Edward's hands holding on to the forbidden fruit?
Bella's hands offering the forbidden fruit?
Edward's hands offering the forbidden fruit?
Or
None of the above...

(I put this in the Book Cover thread but thought it would have a place here too...)

I always thought it was Bella's hands holding on to the forbidden fruit.

I always thought it was Bella's hands offering the forbidden fruit. Given the connotations and the consequences, it just made more sense to me that way.

I took it as Bella's hands holding onto the forbidden fruit. I see her in Twilight as learning about this new world with the Cullen's and "holding on" to that world.

(reposted from the Book Covers thread)

I think it's not even Bella or Edward holding the apple. Just a generic pair of arms.

The theme of Twilight (in my opinion) is temptation. Bella is tempted with Edward and an endless life with him. Edward is tempted with Bella, and finding his true love after all this time.

And when we think of temptation, what's the original? The snake in the Garden, telling Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit.

I choose all of the above, it depends on what part of the story you're reading. Bella and Edward offer temptations to one another, and in the end they both take the apple, and once they have, there's no turning back.

According to her website it represents: Choice.

She said that the apple is also like Snow White's apple; once bitten, frozen forever in a state of not-quite-death.
This is exactly what Bella ended up with - a knowledge of what is good and what is evil and now frozen in time.
So to me, it is her hands receiving of the fruit.

Oh good point... I could add to the options then:

Bella's hands holding on to the forbidden fruit?
Edward's hands holding on to the forbidden fruit?
Bella's hands offering the forbidden fruit?
Edward's hands offering the forbidden fruit?
Bella's hands receiving the forbidden fruit?
Edward's hands receiving the forbidden fruit?
None of the above.
All of the above.
Combination of the above.

Haha! I don't think there is a right answer to this and I've loved reading the responses! Everyone makes really good points/arguments for why they see it one way. Very cool. Would make a good book club question I think.

Okay, here's a question:

On the cover of New Moon is a tulip. SM says it has no direct meaning, but if YOU could give it a meaning, what would it be? What would the one lone petal falling mean?
