Navarre, I've read the FAQs many times, and wasn't objecting to the fact she became a Queen. It was just the pawn vs. king deal, and having a chess-obsessed cousin, that irked me.
Oh, I know, I understand. But here is my question. Why is "king" mentioned when the piece is a queen and SM says it is a queen? What I mentioned in the previous post is my very limited knowledge of chess, but I'm puzzled myself now. :?

I mentioned the King because I felt that the king is a more suitable symbol of human Bella than a Pawn. The Pawn is the weakest and most abundant piece in the game of chess. Bella is shown as the Pawn. The King is the most important piece on the chess board because if you lose the King, you lose the game. Despite its importance, the King is not very powerful, and doesn't see much action until the end of the game. Eh, woulda-shoulda-coulda.

In my opinion, they chose not to use the King for a couple of reasons:

One, it's a King, and therefore masculine. Bella is female.

Two, a King does not go through a transformation in a game of chess. It's always a King. A pawn, on the other hand, can undergo a transformation- but it has to get clear across the board (and through all the dangers inherent in that action) to achieve that goal.

Ahhh, now I understand. Thanks for that. Learn something new everyday. :)

I'd play, but I am strategy-impaired. I just like moving pieces.

I sometimes use strategy and sometimes just wing it...
It's fun either way, especially when the games are close!

There's a card game called Knightmare Chess that you play alongside a regular game of chess.

You each have cards, and you can use them in certain situations.

The effects are outrageous- everything from simply switching the positions of two pieces, to rotating the entire board 90 degrees!

I haven't actually tried playing it yet, though. :?

That DOES sound pretty intense!
I'll have to look that up on google or something, and see exactly what it is.
thanks for the information!

Could imagine playing chess the way Spock played in the old Star Trek series? 3-level chess. Wow. :ugeek:
