This is precisely why some fans are annoying. First off, Chris may have a little bit of say in it, but it's ultimately Melissa Rosenberg's script, not Chris Weitz's script. Saying that you now "hate Chris Weitz" is laughable. I swear, when books are adapted into movies, there are the crazy purists, and the more reasonable fans that wait until they see the entire film before passing extreme judgments.

First, saying I hate CW is a bit of dramatic license. I don't hate him. I don't know him. But, I can say that putting a scene from Eclipse in the movie based on NewMoon is just a little ridiculous. Yes, I am a purist, but I do understand that adaptations have to allow for some dramatic license themselves. However, there is a reason why things happened precisely they way they did in both New Moon and Eclipse. I think putting a kiss between Bella and Jacob in New Moon lessens the impact of the first unwanted kiss in Eclipse. Yes, it ramps up the rivalry between Edward and Jacob in New Moon and again for Eclipse. But, New Moon isn't about that rivalry.

And, we know that CW is VERY involved in the scripts he shoots. He saved the Stitches scene when MR left it out, writing it in on his own. I'm sorry but I completely lost faith in Melissa Rosenberg when I found out she left out that scene. My apologies if my opinions annoy you, but that is what these forums are for, to express differing opinions in a respectful way because we are all fans.

I agree, JG. This is not about changing the color of a car or Bella's dress at the birthday party. Or even adding a fightscene in Volterra or Jake's birthday gift. Those are small things, that are only slightly annoying. It is far bigger than that.
It is taking something crucial in one book, and putting in the other and destroying what is going to happen in the next book/movie. I love how Bella slaps Jake when he kisses her for the first time. How she breaks her hand, and Edward coming to pick her up, and not to forget Emmett's priceless comment. Edward calling and interrupting the moment was important, IMO. And Bella was not ready to kiss Jacob in NM. She was still broken. I think this is a big deal, and I reserve the right to feel mad about it even though I haven't seen the movie yet. What I hope is still that they don't actually kiss. That they go no further than we've seen this far.

As for director vs scriptwriter, they are a team. Both of them are responsible for what's in the movie. And when it is an interview with Chris Weitz, it is appropriate to comment on him. He said: "I can assure you we're staying very, very close [to the book]," Weitz recently told MTV of the smooching scene. A moment after that, he added, "No one will feel that I have betrayed [Robert Pattinson's] Edward and Bella's relationship."
Now that is a pretty extreme statement when you add in scenes from a different book....IMO, that is.

On the brighter side...Did everyone see the clip from Ulalume :) I like it. The familiy looks great. And I love the look on Edward's face, when he is the first one to realize what is about to happen.

A BRIEF WORD FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBOURHOOD MOD TEAM ABOUT CLEAN LANGUAGE.

PLEASE DON'T TRY TO FIND CLEVER WAYS AROUND OUR FILTERS. They're there for a reason. We realize we've maybe not made our policy clear in the past, and that many of you may have been using "alternative" spellings in good faith, thinking that this was ok. So we want to reiterate our rules: If a word is still decipherable, it's still offensive and doesn't belong on these boards. Don't make us waste our time and yours updating our filters to keep up with inventive new misspellings. Just find an unexceptionable way of expressing yourself. We want to keep these boards PG! We have really young kids on this site. And even Adult threads can be read by viewers of all ages.

And remember: the filters are not a free pass. Just because something isn't in the filters, that doesn't mean it's appropriate to write on the Lex. It's up to you to keep your posts PG. In particular, THE FILTERS CAN'T CATCH ANYTHING INSIDE BANNERS AND AVIES -- please don't make us come after you to clean them up!

Please note that this isn't a response to any particular posts or threads -- it's just an issue we've let slide for a long time, and we wanted to clarify our position. And we've picked a few well-trafficked threads as the quickest way of reaching the most people. For a more detailed account of our policies, please have a look at our Posting Rules.

Thanks!

Honestly, if people want to harp on about Edward's car/Bella's dress being the wrong color, they probably aren't going to enjoy any type of book-to-movie adaptation. Ridiculous.

SO EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE - WE ARE GETTING SO CLOSE! :)

The trailer and every clip shown is amazing but what irritates me the most is that they are establishing Jake-Bella relations very early in the movie. The scene where he comes to give Bella the dream catcher for her B'day is so unnecessary. And the scene where he hugs Bella as if to bait Edward- ridiculous.

Maybe I have low expectations of movie adaptations to begin with.....

I'm not in love w/ Melissa's screen adaptations, I hope they kick her to the curb if they do actually film BD. I just see that making a movie is someone else's creative project. Stephanie's story/books are the genesis, the basis, but typically movies are their own project.

I loved the books as much as everyone else. I really don't want to see any variation, but at the same time, I expect it. I also think we may be pleasantly surprised if we stay open to it, too. So...until I see the movie and see if the changes stand on their own or not, I'll reserve judgement. And, I wonder, if any of us were a director, would you like working on a project that had little opportunity for creative freedom or opportunities to put your own stamp on it? I've never expected the movie to be a visual version of the book, nor do I think anyone here expects that. But I think we should all respect that other people's creative influences are a part of this project too.

Stay open to this, folks, you may actually enjoy what they do to this! ;)

Why choose??? Do both!! I've decided to go myself at midnight, then go again w/ my hubby later. He's not interested in the midnight show and it gives me the perfect justification to see it more than once!

Same, same. I thought that it was annoying he did that, i had people asking me when Jacob and Bella kissed in New Moon and i was like: They never did! I understand its an adaptation but theres no need to deviate from the storyline that much!
