Hi, I'm Jeakat

Hi, I'm Jeakat  My screen name has been with me for years. Chances are, if you see Jeakat anywhere out there, it's going to be me! I don't quite remember how I came up with it, I just remember being in my mid-teens and needing a name that wasn't my own (for obvious reasons) to use on the internet.

My Twilight experience started in August '09. I know, I was very late in the game. I'd seen the ads for the film and it got me interested, but then I watched a news report on all the young fans queuing to get tickets. I hadn't read a YA book since I was about 15, so I really didn't think Twilight would be something for me. And I'd watched so much Buffy as a teen (seriously, I was beyond addicted!) that I thought I'd passed my vampire phase. Wow, this sounds really patronising, trust me it's not meant to be! I'm also making myself out to be a reformed Twilight hater. Again, not the case, I didn't hate Twilight (how on earth can you hate something you know nothing about?), I just wasn't interested.

One day my big sister called me, she'd just bought Twilight on DVD, watched it, and promptly wanted to watch it again and thought I'd love it too. Again, I wasn't really interested. A few months later I was round my sister-in-laws house where she was giving my better half some of her DVD's. She had the film but claimed the books were much better and that I'd love them. Once again, wasn't interested. Then in August I was house-sitting for my sister, in the days before she got her devil dog and I was bored. I saw the Twilight DVD on the shelf and popped it in. I was intrigued by the story, but overall I didn't really like the film all that much. I thought that would be the end of my Twilight experience, but later that night I found myself thinking about the characters more and more. The next day I watched the film again. I was toying with maybe buying the books and giving them a go (I knew my sister had copies but after an extensive search around her house, I couldn't find them), and I went online to listen to the songs from the soundtrack. While there I accidently saw a drawing of the tent scene in one of the video montages. I quickly realised that it was Jacob, Edward and Bella and wondered how the characters had ended up in that particular set up! I also, unfortunately, saw a pregnant Bella clip too, which gave the plot away! That evening I went out and bought Twilight, and from the first page I was hooked! The rest is history; I went and got the rest of the books in quick succession, finishing them in just under a week.

I honestly couldn't pick a favourite book out of the four, but my least favourite is Eclipse.

Out of Edward, Bella, and Jacob, my favourite is easily Edward. All three make mistakes, some huge, some not so huge, but it how the characters deal with their mistakes that defines how I react to them. Edward realises his mistake (leaving Bella) and tries his hardest to correct it, resulting in going too far the way. At the end of Eclipse Bella realises all of the mistakes she's made and it seems like she's going to be different from that point, but, for me, she doesn't change and makes exactly the same mistakes in Breaking Dawn. Jacob makes a lot of mistakes, some really bad ones (I understand his motivation, but I can't agree with his actions) and unfortunately he doesn't get the chance to realise that what he's done is wrong. In the end, everything's resolved and Jacob, along with most of the other characters are happy, so he doesn't get to fully experience the consequences of his actions.

My favourite minor character is Leah. To me she has so much depth and her actions/reactions are very realistic. I'd love to be able to say that I could go through everything Leah has had to deal with and come out the other side as the same person I went in, and not end up a "bitter harpy", but I doubt I could. I can, however, see her trying not to lose herself.

I'm from England, a beautiful town on the south coast with miles of stunning beaches that I never go to!

I'm in my twenties, and, as if you hadn't guessed, I really, really waffle on, especially online. I have a degree in journalism, so I can sometimes find it difficult to convey my opinion in writing (having spent years learning how to be as objective as I can!) so I usually prattle on to make sure I'm properly conveying what I think, sometimes with little success! I think my previous journalism experience also effects how I interpret characters as I try to see where everyone is coming from (I can even see what motivates Aro!).

Thank you! Having a great time so far. This forum seems really friendly (much friendlier than some of the other Twilight related ones out there!)
