The hardest person for casting is Katniss. It's so hard when the girls now have to act stupid and girly to get parts, so you can't see them like you would Katniss. And, she's such a vital part (obviously) it's not like casting Glimmer or Foxface.
I agree that Katniss will be hard to cast because there aren't many girl roles for Katniss' age range that aren't "stupid and girly" like you said. I'd rather have someone known for small roles and maybe not as known in the movie field than have someone famous and well known. I don't anyone off the top of my head that fits Katniss' look or has the chops for the role.

I think Michelle Trachtenberg, being 24, would be too old to play Katniss. Even though she was on Gossip Girl, I don't think she really looks like she is in her mid-teens. But for years movies and tv shows have been trying to get us to think that 15 - 18 year olds look like 20-25 years old, so maybe she'd work.

Isn't Robert Pattinson about 24 and he's playing a 17 yo? It might work . . .

^^ But Robert doesn't fit the part at all, he's far too old to play Edward. TOO OLD AND ICKY.

I have no idea who I'd cast as anyone, because I don't pay attention to actors in general.

I think Rob's like 21 or something, so 4 years older.
But then again, Alexis Bledel was 23 when she played Rory on Gilmore Girls (who was 16) and she looked 16. Then there's also Jackson on Hannah Montana who's really like 30 or something, and he looks young.
I think it's mainly that they don't look old.

Yeah, as a mentioned at the very end of my last comment, it could work to use someone older. I just wish that hollywood would start giving people that are actually closer to the ages a chance. I'd like to see a Katniss that is played by someone in the 15-18 range instead of someone who is 22-25, it'd be a great opportunity for a younger actress to prove herself.
Of the actresses I'm familar with, I really have no idea who I'd choose to play Katniss though.

^^^^I agree with you. I would like to see someone who is actually the character's age play the part. I'm sure there must be some young actress out there who could play Katniss & this could be a great way for her to get a break. I don't know any though! It's always bugged me when people who are a lot older than their character playing younger (especially a teenager.) Stupid Hollywood.

I hate scholastic right now.
On Friday (the 24th) I didn't get the book, which is when they said that I would have it by, and my dad called them and the person said that I would get it by the beginning of this week. It is the end of this week and I still don't have it!
And I wanted to have it by tomorrow because I will be seeing my cousin and I wanted to gloat.
Grrr.

Mean Scholastic!

And come to this site! Made by Chloe! The Hunger Games Forums! Right now it's just like me, and Maddy, and Viola, so it's pretty dead.

And yeah, I agree, Katniss will be hard. Some people have said that Bianca Malino fits the part, but I'm not 100% sure yet.

Is that girl a good actress? I don't recognize her. I just hope that whoever they choose will be able to blow us away with her acting, she could either make the film or ruin it. That may be why hollywood generally goes with older actors to portray the younger ones, they are more mature (not to say there aren't mature 16 year olds) and more experience. But there are also actresses like Dakota Fanning who is amazing. They are just pretty rare at that age. Maybe they just haven't been found yet and need to be given a chance, who knows.

I'm not against having an "older" actress portray Katniss. If she still looks to be a teenager, it's all good -- as long as she does a good job. It's not like the wrinkles are appearing at 24!
