Amanda Beth wrote:You guys are so funny with this :) I wish I could get into any of these AU/OOC fanfics but I can't... I can't get into a Bella/Edward character that isn't the real Bella and the real Edward.
Completely understandable seeing as how you write them in their natural incarnation so well. The Edward and Bella in question are about as far away from canon as you can get actually, so, if you are into this kind of novel, it's kind of intriguing to read them anyway. And, Rings is so right. Amazingly, even though they are in situations you would NEVER think they'd be in, somehow, they are still Edward and Bella and Alice and Jasper and Emmet and Rose and Carlisle and Esme and on and on.

Again with the Spoilers

Tracy~ I know. I definitely found it interesting that the corresponding chapter in The Submissive was so much more detailed in terms of the *ahem* physical *ahem* where DomWard's pov mentions almost nothing except the kissing. *Whimper* *Melt* So amazingly beautiful and tender.... and then he has to turn into a complete d!@k about the whole thing and just ruin it for me. GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Erika~ I got no truck being mad at DomWard. NONE!! He's a complete jackarse to her and to himself. I get it. I understand. I truly do. I know he is hurting himself nearly as badly as he hurts her. But, it doesn't mean it's any easier of a pill to swallow.

See, as a writer, I can appreciate the OOC fanfics (is AU alternate universe? I forget), the AH ones... It intrigues me how other people can take the essence of a character, plop them into a completely different setting, and see how they behave. And these characters do behave the way you'd expect them to, given the new settings. That's part of the joy of reading these fanfics- seeing just how closely they mirror the original characters that inspired them. Plus, they make you think about angles you likely wouldn't have thought of yourself, if you keep to canon. I mean, come on- Edward as a stripper? And yet The Red Line managed to portray exactly that, and got me crying several times in the process.

I guess what I'm saying is, it's liberating to read all these alternate takes, and I'd be doing myself a disservice as a writer by not exploring other possibilities. :) At the very least, I can gain more insight into what makes characters tick.
Well said.

Those reasons are actually why I prefer AU/AH. For me, I loved Twilight for it's characters and themes. Their personalities and beliefs made them feel so real and the issues of love and relationships so universal. I love seeings these things in AU/AH stories because it shows how it transcends the situation. Authors throw these characters in new scenarios and let the situation draw out and emphasize the characteristics the canon characters possess but weren't given much light in the Saga.

!!SPOILER!!
Caryn~ if you're upset now, just wait until 31 when she turpentines his a$$. Pretty sure Emmett mentioned that Edward drinks half the wine cellar when she leaves him.

I just wanted to really quickly say that "turpentine his @$$" should make it into everyday language.

"Oh, the boss thought he could get me doing the work of three people for the same amount of pay as one, but I turpentined his @$$."

Carry on. :D

DarkMuse wrote:**THE RED LINE SPOILERS** (as if everyone hasn't already read this...lol)

I was watching a show on HBO last night and the premise for it sounds quite similar to The Red Line. It's called Hung. It's about this guy whose wife divorces him, and although his kids go to live with him at first, they go back to living with their mother when Dude's house burns down. He can't afford a new place, so he lives in a tent outside the burnt down house. In order to make money and get his kids back, a lady friend of his becomes his "pimp" and helps him in becoming a man wh0re. He has to go to these women's houses/hotel rooms and be whatever they want him to be. And this was all that happened in the first episode. I'm gonna keep watching it to see if he meets a therapist type lady. Lol.

**END SPOILERS**
Too bad this doesn't star our favorite man!! I would love to see Rob in this kind of role!!

I second that sentiment.

Why are all the good shows on HBO? And why does my family have basic cable??

Back to the topic, anyone know the status of Atlas Shrugged? It's been awfully quiet.
