Re: What music would you like in the soundtrack?
I personally think the Soundtrack should stick with the more obscure artists. I was listening to A Fine Frenzy the other day, and the song, "Near to You" came on and I thought, Oh my goodness! That is Bella singing about Jacob or to him, whatever, but that whole situation anyhow.
Here are the lyrics (if you don't already know them):
He and I had something beautiful
But so dysfunctional, it couldn't last
I loved him so but I let him go
'Cause I knew he'd never love me back
Such pain as this
Shouldn't have to be experienced
I'm still reeling from the loss,
Still a little bit delirious
Near to you, I am healing
But it's taking so long
'Cause though he's gone
And you are wonderful
It's hard to move on
Yet, I'm better near to you.
You and I have something different
And I'm enjoying it cautiously
I'm battle scarred, I am working oh so hard
To get back to who I used to be
He's disappearing
Fading subtly
I'm so close to being yours
Won't you stay with me
Please
Near to you, I am healing
But it's taking so long
'Cause though he's gone
And you are wonderful
It's hard to move on
Yet, I'm better near to you.
I only know that I am
Better where you are
I only know that I am
Better where you are
I only know that I belong
Where you are
Near to you, I am healing
But it's taking so long
Though he's gone
And you are wonderful
It's hard to move on
Near to you, I am healing
But it's taking so long
'Cause though he's gone
And you are wonderful
It's hard to move on
Yet, I'm better near to you.
Yet, I'm better near to you.
I just love that song and I think it really says a lot of what Bella is thinking.

I played the song "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls to a few of my friends and family members who are also huge Twilight fans and all of them agree that it fits amazingly well, practically perfectly with the relationship between Edward and Bella. I'd really like to get the song in one of the Twilight Saga movies if at all possible, if you haven't listened to it, you should. See for yourself how incredibly well the lyrics fit with the story:
And I'd give up forever to touch you,
Cause I know that you feel the same somehow.
You're the closest heaven that I'll ever be,
And I don't want to go home right now.
And all I can taste is this moment,
And all I can breathe is your life,
And sooner or later it's over,
I just don't want to miss you tonight.
And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming,
Or the moment of the truth in your lies.
When everything feels like the movies,
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive.
And I don't want the world to see me,
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.

I also agree that, although the song lyrics may be perfect for a movie, the lyrics themselves are barely heard. The rhythm of a song is whats importand in a movie, but i think that the instrumentals from "Iris" could also fit very well in a Twilight movie. To listen to the song "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls, click this->http://www.mtv.com/videos/goo-goo-dolls ... iris.jhtml

The thing about songs that are perfect are that you don't really hear a song in it's entirety in a movie. The soundtrack, sure, but the movie no. It's more about the feel of a song than the lyrics, most of the time. *shrugs* That's my take, at least.

I definitely agree Sooz! In the movie, it's just background music, so you don't really hear all the lyrics. It's more about the music itself and the tone fitting the mood of the scene. Of course the lyrics are a bonus when listening to the soundtrack. Considering the Twilight soundtrack, both Paramore songs were written for the movie and the lyrics fit. On the other hand, Flightless Bird & American Mouth is a beautiful song (and I personally think perfect for its spot in the movie) but its lyrics technically have nothing to do with the movie even if a couple lines could be interpreted otherwise.

I saw it that way too. And luckily all the songs I chose, handpicked and poked at thoroughly actually, have a good sound and also have a good lyrical sense. I'm just lucky that I know way too much music to even have those choices.soozabooza54 wrote:The thing about songs that are perfect are that you don't really hear a song in it's entirety in a movie. I think they should have a few second dramatic orchestral song for when Jacob jumps in Bella's window though. Then when he hits the floor everything will just go silent. It'd be cool if they added like a heartbeats and breathing with a score like that. Just to hold the effect that they're trying to be quiet. I'm sure I could write a good violin part for it just for fun.

Paramore are very good, so some of that in there would be nice.
I don't know any really sad, depressing songs, but they would be needed for Bella's feelings.
Also, something wolfy for Jacob? Not sure what but that would also be nice.

Re: What music would you like in the soundtrack?
I completely agree that as much as a song might work perfect for the character or for the emotions, I think that it is difficult to make that same song translate for a motion picture.
However, it would be spectacular to see anything from Imogen Heap in the movie. When I finished the books, her songs reminded me of the story. It would be pretty awesome if Imogen composed something special for the movie, it seems pretty unlikely, but she has such great musicality and talent with cool beats and sounds that I think she could make a really dynamic piece for a key scene.
I imagine something like thishttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ri0f-Hh6-U could fit in somewhere around Bella's breakdown or something. The song is called "Clear the area". If you haven't heard of Imogen you should take the time to listen to her stuff. Its great!
Although people might remember her song "Hide and Seek" from the finale of one of the seasons of the O.C.
