Chapter 4: Gesture
Many thanks to Una for providing this discussion for us!
1. Bella has a knack for predicting outcomes. She makes a comment to herself about Jacob turning his back on his birthright as pack leader, and this left Sam Uley "to act as the chief of legends and magic now. . . ." Why do you think Bella didn't finish her thought?
2. Why do you believe that Sue Clearwater chopped off her hair? If she was so uncomfortable at the wedding, why did she attend?
3. Why does it bother Jacob more that Bella plans on a real human honeymoon than her pending transition in a week or two?
4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used?
5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch?

Re: Chapter 4: Gesture
Honestly, I'm not sure. Her thoughts flowed from that, straight to Billy Black, with whom she's not had that great a relationship with. I suppose she could be wondering how things would be, had Jacob accepted his role as the alpha. Perhaps she felt Jacob should accept his role, seeing as he's just as much a part of the legends and magic as the others are.Alphie wrote:1. Bella has a knack for predicting outcomes. Bella believes it's a show of solidarity with Leah. I think that's highly probable, what with both her children being werewolves. As far as her attending despite being uncomfortable, I doubt she'd willingly let Seth go by himself, werewolf guards in the woods or not.Alphie wrote:2. I think at this point he's accepted the fact that Bella will be turned. But this news upset him because he believes that she will be physically hurt or worse if she's still human (during the act), and he can't accept anything that might hurt her.Alphie wrote:3. At first I thought it was Edward's Vanquish- but I doubt he'd let anyone do that to his car. It can't be Alice's Porsche. I also doubt it's Bella's Guardian. It wasn't a Jeep, so it's not Emmett's, and I doubt they'd use Rosalie's M3. That leaves the Volvo, and Carlisle's Mercedes.Alphie wrote:4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used?
Just speculation here, but they mentioned that Jasper used a car to pick up Renee and Phil from the airport. He would probably have used the Mercedes (more luxurious than the Volvo, plus the window tint). He also brings the car around for Edward and Bella before they leave, so I'm leaning towards Carlisle's Mercedes. Pure speculation, of course.
I think she's hoping that, after her change, she can still have both her families (human and vampire) like that, the way they were on the porch. I believe she's wishing that once she's a vampire, she can still have a relationship with her human families and friends.Alphie wrote:5. I guess because it was his own choice and she can't really change anything about that. She was probably also deep in thought.
2. Why do you believe that Sue Clearwater chopped off her hair? If she was so uncomfortable at the wedding, why did she attend?
I think the only reason she cut her hair was because of Leah. I don't really have any other reason that I thought of. She went because her son was going mostly to protect him, and to be there for Billy. Also, out of respect for Charlie maybe.
3. Why does it bother Jacob more that Bella plans on a real human honeymoon than her pending transition in a week or two?
He knows its dangerous for her for one thing and he might be a little bit jealous at the fact that he could never have that type of relationship with her.
4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used?
At first I was thinking of the Vanquish, but I really have no idea. I'm guessing maybe the Volvo?
5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch?
I think she's hopeful because she knows that because of Renee and Charlies platonic/familial love for one another her family can be happy even if she can't be with them. Then again a part of the hope could be that her future can involve them.

Im not sure. bella always does that and then i never know whats going on. like in eclipse, with the whole "Edward's already got a diamond on you". i still dont understand that one.
2. Why do you believe that Sue Clearwater chopped off her hair? If she was so uncomfortable at the wedding, why did she attend?
I think she probably cut her hair because Leah had to; that was really sweet of her. I think she attended the wedding because she didnt want her son, Seth, going by himself or letting the incapable Billy go alone.
3. Why does it bother Jacob more that Bella plans on a real human honeymoon than her pending transition in a week or two?
Hmm...thats not very smart logic that jake has there lol. but most likely because he's jealous of any sexual relationship between Bella and Edward.
4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used?
I dont know; i was wondering the same thing. I thought maybe they would have gotten a limo or rented some other brand new fancy car for the occassion, but if not, it was probably the Aston Martin.
5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch?
Because they all look happy together and she feels that maybe the looming separation with everyone won't be as hard on her family and friends as she had thought. that maybe everything would work out okay.

Why do you think Bella didn't finish her thought? I don't know. I think it was more SM in her writing to get us to think or something.
2. Why do you believe that Sue Clearwater chopped off her hair? If she was so uncomfortable at the wedding, why did she attend? She's all about supporting her kids--Leah with the hair and Seth with the wedding. Oh and she went to the wedding for Charlie. How could she have explained not showing up?
3. Why does it bother Jacob more that Bella plans on a real human honeymoon than her pending transition in a week or two? I think it's the fact that Edward, who he hates, would be with Bella (still human, the one he still loves) in that way. It's too painful for him to think of her wanting him like that, but not willing to be with him really in any way whatsoever.
4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used? The one that was used in the prom. Or maybe just the Volvo since they probably left it at the airport.
5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch? Because it's just how everything is supposed to be, she hopes that it will stay the same

Because she had a feeling things were going to change.
2. Why do you believe that Sue Clearwater chopped off her hair? If she was so uncomfortable at the wedding, why did she attend?
I think she cut her hair to show support for her daughter and came to the wedding to show support for her son.
3. Why does it bother Jacob more that Bella plans on a real human honeymoon than her pending transition in a week or two?
Because he is in love with her a thinking about that makes him angry. And also because it is very dangerous.
4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used?
The vanquish it's his special events car.
5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch?
Because she hopes that her family will stay together even when she is not there to hold it together.
Because she had a feeling things were going to change.

Re: Chapter 4: Gesture
If you're referring to how Alice had mentioned the diamonds in the garage (~"What's another diamond? Well I guess the ring's got lots of diamonds, but he's already got one...") and when Jacob sees the heart on the bracelet (~"A rock. Figures."), I believe that the heart Edward gave Bella is actually a diamond. He's been downplaying the value because he knows how upset she'd be if she knew the truth.rain.on.me wrote:Im not sure. bella always does that and then i never know whats going on. like in eclipse, with the whole "Edward's already got a diamond on you". i still dont understand that one.
(note: approximate quotations, as I don't have my Eclipse near me at the moment)
I knew I forgot something when I posted my answer earlier. I agree with your answer, as well.rain.on.me wrote:5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch?

-Maybe because she thought something was going to change again ? haha I'm not really sure.
2. Why do you believe that Sue Clearwater chopped off her hair? If she was so uncomfortable at the wedding, why did she attend?
-She probably attended the wedding because she was friends with Charlie and its his daughter, and also Seth was going to be there so she probably wanted to be around him in case anything bad happend. I figured she cut her hair because Leah had to.
3. Why does it bother Jacob more that Bella plans on a real human honeymoon than her pending transition in a week or two?
-I think its because Edward could accidently realllyyy hurt Bella when they try to make love. From Jakes point of view he'd rather have Bella be unbreakable as a vampire then killed when she was human.
4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used?
-I pictured this long dark, shiny, black stretch limo with like dark, dark, dark tinted windows and a driver with like a little hat and everything haha.
5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch?
-I think Bella's so hopeful because she thinks that maybe her family will do okay without seeing her for a while, and that maybe it won't be as hard for them as it is for her to seperate herself from them for a while.

No clue. Bella is so like me, so I understand more than Edward does about her sometimes because I often feel the same way, but like Edward, I don't understand everything that goes on inside her head all of the time.
2. Why do you believe that Sue Clearwater chopped off her hair? If she was so uncomfortable at the wedding, why did she attend?
I don't know why she cut her hair. But all the wolves did cut their hair when they became a member of the pack... As for her attending the wedding, she wanted to protect Seth, Billy and Jake.
3. Why does it bother Jacob more that Bella plans on a real human honeymoon than her pending transition in a week or two?
Because he's accepted she's going to become a vampire. He freaked out the same way when he found out about that, too, remember. And he says she's fragile.
4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used?
The Aston Martin, Edward's special occasion car.
5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch?
She was worried that nobody'd be able to make it on their own without her. Now she sees they might be able to.

1. Bella has a knack for predicting outcomes. She makes a comment to herself about Jacob turning his back on his birthright as pack leader, and this left Sam Uley "to act as the chief of legends and magic now. . . ." Why do you think Bella didn't finish her thought?
Maybe she thought that Jake wouldn't do it, or that maybe he would. Or maybe her mind was somewhere else, and she didn't want to think about Jacob on her wedding day.
2. Why do you believe that Sue Clearwater chopped off her hair? If she was so uncomfortable at the wedding, why did she attend?
I don't know Sue chopped off her hair. Maybe she is a werewolf. Maybe not. I think that she attended because of Billy and Seth. She wanted to support both of them.
3. Why does it bother Jacob more that Bella plans on a real human honeymoon than her pending transition in a week or two?
He thinks that she is going to get hurt, and he's pretty sure that she knows that. He can't believe that she would do that while she is still human. And Edward is along with it.
4. There is no description of what car was decorated and used for the honeymoon get-away. What car do you believe they used?
I pictured that it was a convertible. I don't know why, that was just the type of car that came to mind. And if not that, the car that Edward used for prom.
5. Why is Bella so hopeful when she waves goodbye and sees her families on the porch?
She knows that nothing can go wrong.
