The books are way better than the films, in the newer filmns they miss out tonns of the details.
i would advise you read the books before the newer films because otherwise your view will be clouded (i feel wierd saying that but its true..)

The movies are okay, but they do leave out a lot of the important detail. I think it's best to read it first, but you might do it the other way round and still like it.

Cedric/Rob - I'm not going to say, you'll have to find out.

I agree with what everyone has said about the books compared to the movies. The movies do leave out alot of important information and also they have characters quoting things from the books which that particular character didn't actually say. Which changes the context in my opinion.

Now I loved the GoF movie (no not because of Rob) but didn't really like the book too much and I hated the OoTP movie but loved the book.

obieewok - if you are doing the movie thing now, I do sugges that you actually read the books. I feel that reading the books you will find alot of details that aren't really mentioned in the books and possibly get a better understanding of the characters.

Also, the movies have a few extra details that weren't in the book. I highly recommend you read the books - whether before or after you watch the movies doesn't necessarily matter. I've only read through the series once and when I'm watching the movies I often question whether or not those extra details were in the books. So it's best to read the books just to clear up the confusion. And, in my opinion, the books is when the series is at its best.

Next time I go near the library, I'm going to see if they have any copies of the tales of Beedle the Bard. I want to read them, but not so much that I would buy it. Saving my money!

I'm rereading the series, it's a lot better the 2nd time round, I think I said before. It all makes more sense without the long wait between books. I'm also going to watch Order of Phoenix and Goblet of Fire again, I forgot what the movies were about completely. And also I want to see how much younger Rob looks.

I don't have a lot of ideas of what to read right now, so I'll probably reread the series soon too. A lot of things are usually better the second time around. It'll be nice to lose the fogginess on details. And this is around the time of year that I first read the series.

Rob does look a lot younger in Goblet of Fire. I actually liked him like that. He didn't look so gruff; I watched the movie not too long ago and I found myself crying when Cedric dies. It gets me all the time!

I still love Harry Potter books, after all, they are my first love. But now, it's romance for me.

The books are way better than the movies, espeically if you compared PoA book to the movie. I think that is the worst comparison ever.

Personally, I think from PoA onwards, the movies are going downhill. Too many things getting left out and the were some un-needed comedy parts in them. Maybe, it's because they want to lighten up the mood but I feel it's unncessary.

I'm looking forward to this year's HBP. I've watch the trailer and it seems pretty OK.

Ok. You've all convinced me---I'm going to read the books now. Should I start from the beginning or just pick up where the movies leave off, which would be half blood prince?

You really should read them all, to make sure you understand everything. There's a lot of stuff in the first few books that connect to the next ones, so its best, but not entirely required...
However, most fandoms don't make sense if you start out in the middle of the series.
I happen to like reading them backwards. Its pretty fun.

I would totally start off from the beginning. I think you will get a better picture when you are reading it because you will have a better understanding about it from the movies. That would also help you read it faster I think. The books are way better than the movies so that is why I suggest that.
