Re: Pronounciation Key
I'm always a little surprised at how many people get Carlisle wrong... hmmm.
I realized that I always say Aro "ay-ro," not "ah-ro." I wondering which one it is.

Re: Pronounciation Key
Okay well I'm pretty sure that Didyme is an ancient Greek/latin name, and in latin all of the syllables have equal stress, and you pronounce it pretty much phonectically. So I think its actually said Di-di-me (me as in the word me, not may.)Destani wrote:I didn't have too many problems with the other names though. Except Didyme. I tried doing a search online. I came up with a bunch of sites that I couldn't understand and one that pronounced it as Di-deem. So I'm still not sure how to say it. I was thinking Dee-di-may or Dee-di-mee when I first read it. Does anyone know for sure?

Bwahahahahaha! I live in Washington about an hour and a half away from Forks and La Push. I already knew how to pronounce La Push and Quileute. I feel so proud. Then there's me and Carlise. >.<
"Oh my god tori! I love Car-lee'-sill so much!"
"Who?"
"Car-lee-sill! Edward's *air quotes* dad."
"*near hysterical laughter* Do you mean Carl-isle?"
"Wait...do I?"
"Yes dork."
"Oh. Ok. that's wierd."

Okay, I am only quoting myself because... I want everyone to know that you can NOT rely on the audio books to give you correct pronunciation. Because I live in Washington, I know how to pronounce Hoquium. The reader of the audio does not.spookybell wrote:I just got the audio books. I wonder how the reader, Ilyana Kadushin, knows how to pronounce all of these words and if she was able to speak with SM to get the official pronounciation. I love to read books and then listen to the audio. It teaches me how to pronounce things.
not even close.

Re: Pronounciation Key
I did horrible with almost all the pronounciation for the foreign vamps. Like how do you say Kachiri (Cash-eh-ree?) or Sulpicia (Suhl-pee-see-a?) or Alistair (Al-eh-stair?)? Not to mention I completely butchered Siobhan. I was saying "Sib-oh-hand." Most of my friends just kind of ignored me when we talked about BD, beacause the had no clue what I meant...
My best friend's dad says I can't pronounce any of it because I talk like I'm from South Carolina even though I was PA born and raised. I told him that my cousin lives in South Carolina and she talks better than I could ever hope to...

Don't you have the name Alistair in America?!AnaBanana wrote:I did horrible with almost all the pronounciation for the foreign vamps. Like how do you say [...] Alistair (Al-eh-stair?)?
It's a pretty common name here in the UK, but it has a variety of spellings: Alasdair, Alastair, Allister.
You say it Al-as-tair, the tair like 'stair' but without the s.

Nope, we don't have Alistairs here. Or it's not as common here as it is in the UK. Like Hermione.
