Chapter 25: Favor

Postby Alphie » Wed Aug 12, 2009 11:13 pm

Nissanmomma helped us out with this one!

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie?

2. Given the self-control Bella has shown since becoming a vampire, were you surprised by her physical reaction to Charlie?

3. Bella does a lot of worrying in this chapter. Are her concerns founded? Is worrying a productive emotion?

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave?

5. Charlie wants to be included in Bella’s life, but clearly doesn’t want too many details. Do you think Charlie will eventually want more information? If someone close to you was keeping a secret, for your own good, would you be content not to know or would you ask questions until it was all out in the open?

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie?
Not really. He is sort of keen on throwing caution to the wind to get what he wants. At least he didn't just tell Charlie there were vampires in town lol.

2. Given the self-control Bella has shown since becoming a vampire, were you surprised by her physical reaction to Charlie?

No I wasn't surprised. From hearing what it was like for Edward to be around humans, specifically Bella, it seems that even the most controlled vampires are affected by the scent of human blood. All things considered her reactions were very well controlled.

3. Bella does a lot of worrying in this chapter. Are her concerns founded? Is worrying a productive emotion?
Worrying can be a help or a hindrance. In some situations it can be a help, like with Charlie. I can't blame Bella for being worried about how Charlie will react to her and how she will react to him. Bella wants Charlie to be part of her life but that won't be possible if she is to dangerous to be around him. Worrying may be a help here because it will put Bella on her guard so she is less likely to hurt Charlie, or do something that will make him guess what she is.

However, worrying can also be a hindrance. She really shouldn't worry about how Charlie will react to her or Nessie. Charlie is Bella's father and once he gets over the shock of how shes changed he will love her anyway, that's what parents do. And because he loves Bella, he will love Nessie. It's obvious that Nessie is Bella's so Charlie will love her because she is Bella's, that, and because shes irresistible lol. Worrying about these things is only causing Bella more stress than she needs.

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave?
Luckily for Jacob things went well when he told Charlie it was ok to see Bella. That being said, I think it is probably a help to the Cullens. Bella clearly has the ability to ignore human blood so Forks seems to be safe, at least from Bella. This way the Cullens don't have to worry about uprooting their lives and finding a place to start over [i]again[i]. As long as Charlie only knows the bare minimum everyone can remain happy where they are.

5. Charlie wants to be included in Bella’s life, but clearly doesn’t want too many details. Do you think Charlie will eventually want more information? If someone close to you was keeping a secret, for your own good, would you be content not to know or would you ask questions until it was all out in the open?
From what I can tell, I think Charlie will be happy with what he is allowed to know as long as Bella is happy. There wouldn't really be any reason to know more unless something was wrong in Bella's life. I don't think I'd be happy with the bare minimum of details. I'd probably want to know what was going on so I could be fully informed.

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie?
Yes!! I was like  what are you doing?? I thought you werewolves were supposed to be a secret!! But maybe those were just Sam's rules. I'm glad he did it though because I like Charlie and because of Jacob phasing in front of him he was able to stay in Bella's life for a bit longer

2. Given the self-control Bella has shown since becoming a vampire, were you surprised by her physical reaction to Charlie?
Not really, she's still only a new born vampire. That was the first time she'd been really up close to a human, so it was bound to be hard. But I still think the control she had over herself was amazing.

3. Bella does a lot of worrying in this chapter. Are her concerns founded? Is worrying a productive emotion?
I think her concerns are founded, because her biggest worry is that she is going to lose herself and kill Charlie. I think any of us would panic if we knew we could kill our parents that easily. I actually do think that in this case, her worrying was productive. If she'd been really calm and non chalant about the whole thing, she might have overestimated her control and not been as careful as she had been when she was worrying.

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave?
I don't think Forks is in any danger of Bella now. She was able to sit right next to a human, even hug him, while keeping complete control of herself. Even when she was hunting, an instance where she's given control to her senses rather than her mind, she was able to turn away from a human she was so determined to kill. Unless someone in Forks is her "singer" like she was to Edward, I think everyone is safe.

5. Charlie wants to be included in Bella’s life, but clearly doesn’t want too many details. Do you think Charlie will eventually want more information? If someone close to you was keeping a secret, for your own good, would you be content not to know or would you ask questions until it was all out in the open?
Personally, I can't stand secrets and would have to keep asking. However, if they explained to me the truth could kill me, I would most likely reconsider... I think Charlie is actually the type of person who doesn't really care about knowing too much. I think he's satisfied not knowing the whole story about Bella, he's not the type of person who would pry. As long as he gets to keep Bella in his life he doesn't care why.

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie?
I was so disturbed when reading this chapter...it was tribal knowledge that the Quileutes never tell anyone about the werewolf thing. Jacob BROKE that treaty back in Twilight (P. 123) when telling Bella...he even said that he is not supposed to talk about it. Is there no reperecussion for telling Charlie??!@# That is a blatant disregard for his tribe and their legends. And what happens when Charlie starts talking about Jacob's phasing to Billy? Billy will surely tell him more information like about the Cullens...it does not make sense at all. There were many places throughout these 4 books where facts are not checked and details do not line up. Obviously the editors missed several things such as this.

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave?
Again, I thought this was WAY out of character and a stupid way for Charlie to find out. It was not necessary for him to learn this way...Bella would have handled it better and she should have been allowed to do so. This truly disturbed me and turned me full fledged into Team Edward.

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie?

Yes, shocking i know but i didnt see it comeing. I know he couldn't let them move away and take Nessie out of his life that would be verry painfull to him, guess i should have known he'd do somthing Jacob is allabout brakeing the rules, being Alpha he no longer has Sam's command for not exsposing who/what he was anymore.

2. Given the self-control Bella has shown since becoming a vampire, were you surprised by her physical reaction to Charlie?

No, because she stopped herself while hunting and turned on Edward in protection of the humans and in Twilight Edward had told her while hunting they give themself over to their instincks so with that in mind I knew she would be ok around her dad. Protecting her dad was always #1 while she was human so to protect strangers from herself and Edward while hunting only showed she'd beeven more protective tword thoes she loves the most.
 But at the same time what if he smelt REALY good like Bella did to Edward then well all bets are off

3. Bella does a lot of worrying in this chapter. Are her concerns founded? Is worrying a productive emotion?

Worrying is a productive emotion its helps you see optians worrying helps Bella protect not just herself but everyone around her. She worrys about her dads health after Jacob phased infrount of him, she worrys about physical pain of the thirst and the emotional pain if she cant conntol the thirst around her dad, she worrys about her dad's reaction to her change and what he'll think of Nessie, and worrys about if she can control the thirst but Charlie wont except her. All good concerns, Worrying helps you see Worst Case so when ya think of worst cases it add more questions, can you handle it, can he handle it, can we get past this.. with the worst cases in mind usly releif follows cause it didnt go as bad as exspected ,(all tho Turning Purple is never a good sign) :D

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave?

I think he did them a good thing although Forks maynot be in danger but Charlie an the Cullens would be if Volturi got wind of him knowing.

5. Charlie wants to be included in Bella’s life, but clearly doesn’t want too many details. Do you think Charlie will eventually want more information? If someone close to you was keeping a secret, for your own good, would you be content not to know or would you ask questions until it was all out in the open?

Charlie maybe one that only likes little info on certain things i think he would eventually ask more little at a time.
I would want to know but at the same time i know even in reallife there is people its best not know what they are realy into.

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie?
YES!!! it was like one of those "oh, that'll never happen!!" things, and then POOF! it happened!! i was like....woa, woa, woa....did that really just happen??

2. Given the self-control Bella has shown since becoming a vampire, were you surprised by her physical reaction to Charlie?
no, i didnt think stephenie would do anything to charlie! it just couldnt happen.

3. Bella does a lot of worrying in this chapter. Are her concerns founded? Is worrying a productive emotion?
no, worrying is not productive and sometimes it just makes things worse. its just an irrational emotion.

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave?
yes, but it puts them in a hard situation, so....i'm torn here!!

5. Charlie wants to be included in Bella’s life, but clearly doesn’t want too many details. Do you think Charlie will eventually want more information? If someone close to you was keeping a secret, for your own good, would you be content not to know or would you ask questions until it was all out in the open?
i would want to know more even if it was for my own good!! i think if stephenie had continued the saga, that would've been resolved.

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie? I was very surprised. I was thinking what are you doing?

2. Given the self-control Bella has shown since becoming a vampire, were you surprised by her physical reaction to Charlie? I wasn't at all. That was her first time being that close to a human.

3. Bella does a lot of worrying in this chapter. Are her concerns founded? Is worrying a productive emotion? I was just as worried as she was, so I don't think she worried too much. There's a lot she has to consider.

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave? I wasn't too sure. I can see how it could go either way it could be a favor or Bella could totally just snap and go after a human.

5. Charlie wants to be included in Bella’s life, but clearly doesn’t want too many details. Do you think Charlie will eventually want more information? If someone close to you was keeping a secret, for your own good, would you be content not to know or would you ask questions until it was all out in the open? If it was me I think I would want more information. It bugs me when people talk about something around me & I don'treall get what's really going on. I would think maybe one day Charlie would want more information, being her dad & all I would think he'd want to understand & know what's going on w/his daughter.

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie?
Very. Didn't see that coming at all.

2. Given the self-control Bella has shown since becoming a vampire, were you surprised by her physical reaction to Charlie?
I think she did very well in that situation. She was a newborn, and of course she would have some sort of physical reaction to being that close to a human. She would never have attacked him, I felt sure about that.

3. Bella does a lot of worrying in this chapter. Are her concerns founded? Is worrying a productive emotion?
I don't see worrying as a productive emotion, because it can cloud your mind and make you see problems instead of solutions. But we all worry. It's part of being human...or vampire. I think Bella had reason for concern at this point. She didn't know how long she would get to keep her dad, or if she could keep him safe. She didn't know what the future would bring for her and her family. She was a new mom with a baby not like anything anyone had ever seen before. So of course her concerns were founded.

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave?
I don't think he has put the town of Forks ir Charlie in danger from Bella. If she wanted to attack a human, she would have, regardless of what Jacob did or didn't do. But that's not saying that I think it was a smart move to phase infront of Charlie and have him find out about werewolves as well...I thought that was un-necessary, and I don't think it helped much. It might have made Bella approach Charlie sooner than she normally would have, but other than that...I don't see that it did much either way. The Cullens would have to leave Forks in a short time anyway. They won't be able to keep up the charade much longer, especially with Nessie.

5. Charlie wants to be included in Bella’s life, but clearly doesn’t want too many details. Do you think Charlie will eventually want more information? If someone close to you was keeping a secret, for your own good, would you be content not to know or would you ask questions until it was all out in the open?
Personally, I didn't like this twist. I think Charlie should have been kept totally in the dark, and that Bella actually would have had to cut all bonds to her family and just contact them on the phone. Because keeping Charlie halfway in her life but not giving him any details, is not going to work, IMO. He knows she looks different, he will see that she's not aging and he'll see Nessie growing up in no time....
I would want to know, and I would not rest until I did. But that's just the way I am.

1. Were you surprised that Jacob actually phased in front of Charlie?
Completly shocked! I couldn't believe Jacob would do that and expose the secret,.. but I guess he'd do anything to keep Renesmee

2. Given the self-control Bella has shown since becoming a vampire, were you surprised by her physical reaction to Charlie?
No, not really. Bella had never been so close in contact before,.. where it was right in her face. Jacob is a werewolf and doesn't smell good and Renesmee balances out and isn't so bad.

3. Bella does a lot of worrying in this chapter. Are her concerns founded? Is worrying a productive emotion?
Well, no it's not a productive emotion, but what else is she going to feel? Her father found out a bunch of secret stuff and she looks completely and sounds completely different,.. plus she has to worry about killing him.

4. Has Jacob, in fact, done the Cullens a favor or has he put Charlie and the rest of Forks in danger from Bella if the Cullens don’t leave?
Well, I guess he did them a favor because secrets out so they dont have to figure out a way to hide it from Charlie anymore.

5. Charlie wants to be included in Bella’s life, but clearly doesn’t want too many details. Do you think Charlie will eventually want more information? If someone close to you was keeping a secret, for your own good, would you be content not to know or would you ask questions until it was all out in the open?
Charlie is the kind of guy who might never want to know more about it. So, maybe eventually he might, but I wouldn't doubt it if he didn't. If it was me, I would probably be a lot more curious, but if I was the cheif of police and so on, I might not care as long as they didn't move away from me.

Charlie's reaction to all of it just seemed really unrealistic to me? Wouldn't he have at least gone to the hospital where he thought Bella was? Everything about her appearance changed...wouldn't he shout at the Cullens and demand to know what they've done to his daughter? He seems to accept it a bit too readily, and what about Renee? Does she just never see Bella again? Obviously Charlie is relieved that Bella will still be in his life nevertheless isn't he curious?
