I don't know if I could read a book off of one of these things. There's just something about having the book to hold. Plus I like looking at all my books on the book shelf. It helps me to feel smart!

Pennybug when you collect about 3000 books and all your empty space is full I'm sure you might like to reconsider that
I love the feeling of a book in my hand and I'll continue buying the good ones, I'm sure of this. But as soon as you gent into the reading you completely forget the device you're reading on. It's just a matter of practicality. You can take a whole shelf with you wherever you go, and it doesn't necessarily mean you don't buy paper books any more.
p.s. Sony should give me a reader for free for all this free promotion

Yes they should!
I don't know. Maybe someday I'll consider getting one, just not at the present time. If I remember maybe I should ask for one for my B-day or Christmas, that way I wouldn't have to spend the $$$!

So I'll get straight to the point, although Kindle and Nook, look great and attractive, they're just to expensive for me. Never the less I would like to try e-books, to see if I like it. I have a Windows Phone, so do you advise me any app for e-books?

For what I've read, the books, in case of kindle, are associated with your account, so you can download them to one of the various platforms, whether it be the kindle, the kindle of Windows, Blackberry or iPhone/iPod. So even if it breaks you can continue reading and when you get it fix, or a new kindle, you just re-download them. At least that's what I understood of it.Edwards Ragazza wrote:I have a question what happens if the machine crashes is it like a computer where you can lose all of your books that where stored in the Kindle? Concerning the Sony, it has a software that works pretty much as iTunes library: you have all the books and files stored in the e-readers in the library on your computer. I usually upload the files in the reader using it as a hardware because it's simpler but as soon as you do that you can always sync the reader and the library so you have all the files in your pc as well.Edwards Ragazza wrote:I have a question what happens if the machine crashes is it like a computer where you can lose all of your books that where stored in the Kindle? Since the pdf's and the other kind of files are not that big I suggest that you all keep them, at least you can put them in a cd or dvd: you can store thousands of them in one disc.
I hope this helps...

Thanks Snowstone and Dimber. My husband was thinking about getting me the kindle at one point. But I didn't know anything about it. Usually I just go to the library to save money instead of buying books cause I am the type of person that I read a book once except of course certain favorites that I do have in hardback.
My husband just told me this morning since I was telling him the info you guys have given me and now he is saying that he would rather get me a Ipad .
Dimber I only own a Mac does the e-readers work with Mac?

Amazon's Kindle doesn't require a computer to function- once it's set up. You basically need an Internet connection so you can go to Amazon.com, make an account (if you don't have one yet), register your device, and then put in your debit/credit card info. Once all that's done, you use your Kindle to get books and read, etc.
Now if you were transferring info... I think hooking it up to any PC will set it up as if the Kindle were a portable storage device. There is an app for PC's too, and I heard that one for the Mac is coming (or might be out already, not sure).

All the books you purchase for your Kindle are stored in your account online so if something happens to your Kindle, you still have all your books. The screen on my first Kindle got a glitch in it after having it for 6 months and Amazon replaced it in 2 days for me. I just had to register the new one and then sent all my books to the new device. Very easy. Also, this allows you to purchase more than the 1,500 it holds, you can swap books from your online account to your Kindle when you want to read it.
As for using the iPad as an e-reader, I have heard bad things. A friend of mine has both a Kindle and an iPad and he tried to read at night off the iPad since it is back lit. It really hurt his eyes, so he no longer uses the iPad as a reader... he sticks to his Kindle.
I do have a complaint about my Kindle... but it is more to do with Amazon and Penguin Publishers... they are in a dispute and all their books have been pulled from the Kindle After waiting a year for the next Black Dagger Brotherhood book, I can't get it! Same with the next Sookie Stackhouse book!!! I'm very annoyed and frustrated over this!
