Similar to una, I see the movies as separate from the books. Yes, I do now sometimes picture the "wrong" person when I am reading, but in general it switches back to my mental Edward and Bella or other characters eventually.

I like the fun of the movies. I see them as "Twilight popcorn" or "twilight candy" that I can snack on or treat myself with. I don't really get into all the merchandising stuff. I think it is WAY over the top. But I think it is fun for people to do as a hobby if they so choose. I just choose not to participate myself (I mean the buying of lots of stuff).

I saw New Moon and didn't like it.
I'm a bit scared for Eclipse, and how it will be butchered on the altar of teen romance/action. I've gotten over the disappointment of the actors (I don't see them when I read, but every time pictures come I expect the actors to look like in my head) but how they mistreat the story makes me sad. Eclipse is my favorite book, the first I read and it stole my heart, and thus I know I'm in for disappointment, but I doubt I'll be able to walk away if I would get the chance to see it on the big screen.

It's actually kind of my favourite too (*ducks*). Though you know...every time I say that, I think of the last chapters of NM -- or the Confessions and Mind Over Matter chapters in TW -- and I begin to think I just can't choose between any of the first three books. Maybe it's partly that Eclipse felt like a kind of culmination, a fulfillment (in its sometimes perverse and frustrating way) of the story hitherto, so my heart just can't help gravitating towards it.

I love Eclipse, because I fell head over heels for Eclipse-Jacob (remember, I didn't know anything that happened in Twilight or New Moon, it was before the movies came) and Edward just gave me the creeps, a controlling and manipulating son of a leech
Now, Jacob really is my kind of guy, partly because the person described in Eclipse could be my husband if you just ignore the looks... And I'm afraid they will not pay attention to him, but just play big on the bella/eddie relationship meaning a lot of the action between Jake/bella will come across as off...

Eclipse is my favorite book out of the Twilight Saga too. One of the many reasons it is my favorite book is because it cuts through all the garbage and gets straight to the point of what will Bella lose if she decides to turn. She is no longer disilluisioned about her relationship with Jacob. Now, only if that continued on to Breaking Dawn, but that's a different issue and a sore spot for me, personally.

As for the movie, I'm prepared to be disappointed. When they ruined the most important parts of TW (the meadow) and NM (the Truth's chapter), I'm almost certain that the tent scene is going to be just a brief glimpse. I told myself that if I hated NM then I was going to stop the movies all together. Surprisingly, NM won me over and it was the only one that I've seen twice. Not sure if I'll be interested in Breaking Dawn though.

I so agree with all of you. I enjoyed the movies, but as separate entities from the books. I enjoyed the casting of the family more than the lead actors. Ashley Green really looks like Alice to me. (I am a little partial to Alice) Like all of you, they seemed to ruin or take all my favorite parts out. The blood typing, the meadow, the airport and the epiphany. I think the best thing they could do is to fire the screenwriter.

I love both New Moon and Eclipse equally as books, and while it was fun to see parts of the book translated to the screen, it really was kind of disappointing. I want to see BD because I am really curious as to what they will do with it.

Some of you have some of the same feelings as I do . I loved the Series, and I don't think anything will ever take its place. My opinion on the movies I love them for what they are. Yes I did have my own image but I understand everyone has their own interpretation of what they see. I know some thought Twilight was cheesey however I liked the fact that CH didn't use a lot of CGI. I liked CW for staying more to the books. I guess why I didn't have such high hopes is there has never been a movie that I have seen at least that was the perfect book made into movie. So I enjoyed them for what they are.

By the way I have never posted on this thread my name is Desiree. HI

Ah. And you see....this is the magic of books, which movies will always struggle to live up to. We all bring so much to a book: we make it ours in the most literal way imaginable. Each of us, in some way, is a co-author of the Twilight story in our head. The movies give us so much more than the bare words on the page can -- that's part of their power -- but despotically. We're reduced to one fixed interpretation, one set of imaginings -- of a story which (clearly!) has a preternatural power to spark readers' individual imaginations. Which is why it's a mug's game. The striking thing, in a way, is how popular the films in fact are with the fans.

Awesome post, December.
WELCOME DESIREE!! *waves hi*

I would like to point out a phenomenon that happens with art and specifically commercial design. It works with movies as well. All people who create images for others must put some type of link in the art that makes the viewer relate to it. This is particularly important when you are trying to sell something. That's why so many commercials have actors that look rather normal or even ugly, they relate to us. Movie makers do the same thing, they put enough in there to relate to what we know, and then they can place things in that don't mesh or only partially mesh, and we will buy it because we have already linked with it a little. RPatz looks enough like Edward to work for most of us. That is why we accept him as the character.

Welcome Edwards Ragazza!!

I really loved Eclipse but my favorite is still Twilight. I just loved the "falling in love" and it was just such a ride. No movie will ever "replace" a book for me. No movie can ever be as wonderful as how the book plays out in my imagination so I can accept them for what they are. Am I a little disappointed, you bet, some of my favorite parts are changed (or more annoyingly) or are removed. I think one of the worst book adaptations was for Dean Koontz's Watchers. What an absolute ruin of a book. When you change major characters...major plot points...yup that equals disaster!
