1. What were your feelings while reading this chapter? Was Bella’s transformation what you expected, how so?
I loved this chapter. I am so glad Stephenie didn't hold back with the details of how it felt for Bella to transform. I think it was a good way for us as the readers to adjust ourselves to the concept of Bella as a supernatural being. I know I was able to connect to her on different levels but after the transformation, it was clear we weren't very alike anymore. I enjoyed it.

2. It seems the pain of the transition cannot be lessened. Knowing this, would you be willing to undergo this transition? If Bella had known what the morphine would do, would she have still undergone the transition using the morphine?
Knowing after what the morphine would do, I think she might just do it again because she seemed to question how good her control would be if the morphine weren't holding her down. I, too, would take the morphine, just to keep me quiet. I think it would make it easier on loved ones.

3. Once this is over, do you think Bella will ever tell Edward about the morphine, her transition? How do you think Edward would have reacted if Bella had cried out?
I don't think Bella will ever tell Edward. Why? What good would it do? Why cause pain when it isn't necessary. I think she would tell Carlisle, like she mentioned, in case of future transformations. I think Edward would have gone crazy from her pain if she cried out. It would have ruined their first moments together as he felt the need to make it up to her.

4. Why do you feel Edward kept the baby from the room when Bella awakes?
Protection of Bella and Nessie. There was no telling how Bella would react, how she would 'be' when she woke. There was no reason to chance causing Bella pain by her possibly hurting the baby and there was no reason to risk Nessie's life and future relationship with her mom.

All in all a fantastic chapter. This one and the first hunt were almost my favorites in the book.

re-reading it for the umpteenth time loving reliving it by doing these mini survey things

1. What were your feelings while reading this chapter? Was Bella’s transformation what you expected, how so?

im really glad that stephenie put this in and that she didn't just skip it and have it be like 'and then Bella was a vampire' i felt like it gives you a slight insight into what all of the other Cullens had to go through, well a little anyway. when Bella was describing how she couldn't move because of the morphine i felt her anxiousness but then in all honesty its not as though she would've moved or cried out anyway because she doesn't want to hurt Edward mentally by showing how much pain she is in as she says.
2. It seems the pain of the transition cannot be lessened. Knowing this, would you be willing to undergo this transition? If Bella had known what the morphine would do, would she have still undergone the transition using the morphine?
yes of course she would've done shes spent basically the entire saga begging for Edward or any of the other Cullens to change her, she knows there is no other way that she can realistically be with him for the rest of her life and the fact that he won't live in a world where she doesn't exist, and if i had the same choice i would still do it pain or no pain.

3. Once this is over, do you think Bella will ever tell Edward about the morphine, her transition? How do you think Edward would have reacted if Bella had cried out?
no Bella won't ever tell him she doesn't want him to feel guilty about anything or hurt him in anyway, also what would be the point well apart from the one that she states when she is thinking of telling Carlisle, if they were to have make a new vampire. If Bella had cried out id say Edward would flip out maybe panic try and find something that he could do to ease her pain maybe.
4. Why do you feel Edward kept the baby from the room when Bella awakes?
because as a newborn they weren't exactly sure of how she would reactto Renesmee even though she is half vampire, they weren't to know that her preperation mentally would help her behaviour and reactions

1. What were your feelings while reading this chapter? Was Bella’s transformation what you expected, how so?
Well, I was expecting her to at least scream for them to kill her. But no, she got to have control and grew to like the things that were causing her the pain.

2. It seems the pain of the transition cannot be lessened. Knowing this, would you be willing to undergo this transition? If Bella had known what the morphine would do, would she have still undergone the transition using the morphine?
Well, yeah. It's only three days of unimaginable agony. Bella did know that the morphine would have no effect on the pain, and I'm sure if there was less pain for Edward she would have done anything.

3. Once this is over, do you think Bella will ever tell Edward about the morphine, her transition? How do you think Edward would have reacted if Bella had cried out?
No, Bella would find a way to tell Carlisle, but she would never tell Edward about her pain. And I'm sure if she had been able to cry out then Edward would have killed her and himself in despair, because he's all dramatic like that.

4. Why do you feel Edward kept the baby from the room when Bella awakes?
Because Renesmee has blood running through her veins and Bella, not even a minute old, probably couldn't have resisted the urge to kill her.

1. What were your feelings while reading this chapter? Was Bella’s transformation what you expected, how so?

Yes, it's what I expected.

2. It seems the pain of the transition cannot be lessened. Knowing this, would you be willing to undergo this transition? If Bella had known what the morphine would do, would she have still undergone the transition using the morphine?

I don't think she would have cared much for the morphine, since it didn't do that much for the pain. I doubt I'd be willing to undergo that transition, though.

3. Once this is over, do you think Bella will ever tell Edward about the morphine, her transition? How do you think Edward would have reacted if Bella had cried out?

He would have been extremely sad, I'm sure. I don't think Bella would have said much about it though... By the time it was finished, it would have left her mind...

4. Why do you feel Edward kept the baby from the room when Bella awakes?

Because Renesmee is half-human, and has blood that Bella may have been attracted to.

I have a question. Now that the trailer for the first movie is out and everyone is trying to decide how the scenes they showed fit in, I went back and read this section again. ...I think I'm misreading something.

"No, I'm staying right here," Edward whispered, answering an unspoken thought. "They'll sort it out."
"An interesting situation," Carlisle responded. "And I'd thought I'd seen just about everything."
"I'll deal with it later. We'll deal with it." Something pressed softly to my blistering palm.
"I'm sure between the five of us, we can keep it from turning into bloodshed."
Edward sighed. "I don't know which side to take. I'd love to flog them both. Well, later."

Who exactly is he talking about. I know one of them is Jacob, but who is the other or the "both" Edward is talking about?

My interpretation:

Jacob's imprinting vs. Rosalie's possessiveness of Renesmee.

And his first statement was correct, they did end up sorting it out due to their mutual concern for Renesmee's welfare.

And I assume the "five of us" refers to the 7 Cullens minus Edward who is staying out of it for the moment and Rosalie who is in the thick of it.
"It will take an amazing amount of control,” she mused. “More even than Carlisle has. He may be just strong enough…the only thing he’s not strong enough to do is stay away from her. That’s a lost cause.”

1. What were your feelings while reading this chapter? Was Bella’s transformation what you expected, how so?
I wasn't expecting her to be gagged by the morphine, but otherwise it was pretty much what I was expecting, yes.

2. It seems the pain of the transition cannot be lessened. Knowing this, would you be willing to undergo this transition? If Bella had known what the morphine would do, would she have still undergone the transition using the morphine?
It's impossible to speculate on whether or not I could do something like this as it's impossible to tell something of that magnitude unless you are in that situation. I think that Bella would, after having come out the other side, probably have opted to the morphine, in order to protect Edward from the truth.

3. Once this is over, do you think Bella will ever tell Edward about the morphine, her transition? How do you think Edward would have reacted if Bella had cried out?
Not a chance. I think it would have been torture for Edward if he had know what she was enduring. I have often imagined how it might have happened.

4. Why do you feel Edward kept the baby from the room when Bella awakes?
Because she has a bloodstream, and if Bella is uncontrollable, as with most newborns, she may attack the baby straight away, and given how strong and unreasoning they are expecting her to be, they may not be able to stop her.

1. What were your feelings while reading this chapter? Was Bella’s transformation what you expected, how so?
I was like: 'wow', it was better than I though, so well described!

2. It seems the pain of the transition cannot be lessened. Knowing this, would you be willing to undergo this transition? If Bella had known what the morphine would do, would she have still undergone the transition using the morphine?
Yes, she was happy because of not being able to move. If she didn't have the morphine, she wouldn't have been able to lie still.
I would never be willing to undergo the transition. I had three babies, which was painful, I can't imagine how painful the transition would be.

3. Once this is over, do you think Bella will ever tell Edward about the morphine, her transition? How do you think Edward would have reacted if Bella had cried out?
No, she'll never tell Bella. He would only feel guilty about it.

4. Why do you feel Edward kept the baby from the room when Bella awakes?
The baby is half human, it might be to appealing for Bella the Newborn.
