Seriously. Everyone admits she's spoiled, she's growing up in lots of money, she's getting her own way all the time, people will fight to the death to protect her... All of that can't have a good effect on her, which is why I think she'll turn out spoiled, temperamental, bratty, and just plain intolerable.

Please don't lynch me.

I'm going to disagree with you too, because although I think Renesmee will be strong-willed, IMO Edward and Bella will be great parents. Edward knows enough of the world to have learned about its hardships and Bella wasn't brought up in a wealthy family, so although they do have the resources to be able to give Renesmee absolutely anything she wants, I think they will practice restraint and teach her as she grows. Neither Bella nor Edward are spoiled and bratty and as children absorb a lot from their parents, Renesmee will hopefully follow their lead. And she has Jacob as well but I suspect he is more inclined to spoil Renesmee and give into whatever she wants than Edward and Bella are!

Also, I really don't think Esme and Carlisle would allow Renesmee to become a brat: their parenting skills are superior to Edward and Bella's and they will be able to guide them through parenthood as and when they need help.

This is a place for difference in opinion :) WIthout it there would be no discussion. I do disagree with you. I think that Bella and Edward will raise their daughter to appreciate the simple things in life. Like their meadow, their cottage... Spending time with family. All of this will contribute to keep her grounded. She will also see what it's like to live a life forever, and aquiring money is a part of their life and necessary to make it.
She will be protected by her big family and Jake. But I don't think she will be more protected than most children, now that the threat to her life has been eliminated. I also think that her life at times will be rather difficult. She is a hybrid, and won't really fit in with humans or vampires. She'll have to find our own way, and I think that will help to keep her grounded.

Agree. Especially Bella knows what it's like to not how much money, and she never cared for gifts and expensive things. And I think she'll teach her daughter the same values.

When it comes to who she'll be closest to, I have to say that I think she'll love her family equally, and connect with each of them differently. But I think that she'll be a daddy's girl. I think they'll share a special connection as she grows up.

I will only disagree insofar as to say that I don't think the threat to her life has been removed by any means. The Volturi will still try to destroy the Cullens, and I'm sure that Aro would very much like Renesmee to join his coven. I think that more subtle means will be tried. They will all have to be on their guards constantly.

Happy Birthday, Renesmee, and good hunting!

But according to the guide Renesmee's birthday is on the 11th, not the 10th. Isn't it still the 10th over there?

Of course, it's the 11th where I am, so happy birthday, Renesmee!

Tornado: I'm unsure about Renesmee's exact birth date, as although the Illustrated Guide states that she was born on September 11, everywhere else (including the comprehensive Twilight Lexicon timeline) states September 10. I thought that she was born three days before Bella's birthday (which is on September 13), hence September 10.

Oh well, I expect Renesmee's birthday celebrations will stretch over more than one day anyway; maybe she can have a two-day birthday! :D

I understood her birth as occurring the evening of the 10th, with Bella's change completing in the very early morning hours of the 13th. It was starting to get dark by the time Jacob returned. Sunset in that area is around 7:30 p.m. and sunrise around 6:30 a.m. Renesmee was delivered not too long after Jacob returned, so I would say anywhere from 7 to 8 that night of the 10th, and then Bella is fully transformed very early on the 13th and they go hunting before sunrise. That's a little over 2 days, not quite 2 1/2.

BTW, the Guide also states Bella's transformation as being on the 11th. But that can't be right.

When Jacob returns, it is getting dark. He has his conversation with Edward, and then goes inside and talks to Bella, and then the whole thing begins. It couldn't have been more than 30 minutes since his return. It is maybe 8:30 p.m. at the latest.

When Edward and Alice have their conversation, they mention it has been 2 days since the change began. And then approximately 6 hours later Bella starts going into the end phase where her extremities have completed their change. That is consistent with the final change occuring somewhere between 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning, giving Bella and Edward time to go hunting before sunrise.

The Guide must be wrong.

It's somewhere on the 11th that Bella's spinal injury is repaired, so I guess it's "Happy Double the Pain" day, though that doesn't sound very festive.

Yes, I think that someone stuffed up with that one! The times just don't add up. I actually think it's the timing in BD that is wrong. SM shouldn't have put in the line about it getting dark when Jake comes back. If she hadn't done that, we could time it as being earlier in the day. I suppose we could say that it was getting dark because of the clouds, although it seems to suggest more than that. That would probably be the interpretation that I think meets all the other criteria best.

Bella and Edward didn't go hunting when it was dark, as Bella comments later on her first day about how the darkness, now she has new eyes, just turned everything a different colour. This line suggests that she hasn't seen the effect her new eyes has on the darkness up until that point, or the line would have been given when she went hunting. So it seems that they went hunting in the daytime. And Carlisle wouldn't have said that she was "unaware" for only just over two days if it had been more like two and a half, as it would have to have been in this scenario, although I suppose we could stretch it to mean that. Perhaps, if Renesmee was born at 8.30 pm on the 10th, and Bella finished transforming at, say, 6.00 am on the 13th, then that would be okay, but it's still a bit of a stretch.
