Re: Movie Inconsistencies?

The last time I watched the movie I went about picking all the flaws, many of them were to do with inconsistency with the book so I'll put them up here.

Not in order of importance but whatever I recall first which could be following the plot of the movie.

So not a biggey at all and it worked well in opening the film but really, Edward wouldn't have had that much trouble catching the deer. If he had alerted it before he took it down his run would have caught up with it much faster.

Now a big problem I saw was in the Port Angeles 'ambush' scene. As they guys stalk towards Bella in groups of two I think it's with the first two we see. Behind them is some sort of building with a ramp and decking where there is a male bystander! He's not far away so I think he would notice what was going on and we'd like to think he'd help. Maybe if he did see he was too scared and possibly Bella was too preoccupied to see and shout for help. But in the end, why even add him in the shot? In the book she the caught her in a deserted area, why use and extra and change that from the book's scene?

Another issue I had which is though more opinion based was Bella and Charlie's relationship. In the book they both have trouble showing signs of affection but they do manage now and then when it's important. I thought there were quite a few moments when Charlie was made a kinda fatherly comment towards Bella but she'd just shrug it off or laugh at it. Like for example one was when he told her how nice she looked for the prom. Her reaction I thought was like a kinda mean snigger when she could have made a nice "Thanks Dad". Did anyone else pick up on this?

Also, at the Cullen's house when Edward shows Bella his room it's a bit flat compared to the book. It's not really shown that she thinks it's so cool like in the book. Interestingly the extended scene did a much better job of this and I would have included that in the film.

I guess there was the issue with length where they couldn't include Bella's escape scene from Alice and Jasper. But she got away with no trouble at all. I don't mind it all that much but it would have been nice if they could have come up with a way to show her escape.

The way that Bella bought the Quileute book was weird. Sure it provided a tie to Port Angeles but in the end she hardly used it! After Jacob gave her the information needed she uses the interment like the book but to find the book. We could see that there were websites that would have had answers like the book but she doesn't take any look at them. Once she has the book it's only use is to find the term 'Cold One' from a picture and then went straight back to the internet. If it did follow the book Jacob could have given her that name and there would have been no need for the silly book.

A little thing I personally didn't like was with the scene where Bella tells Edward she knows he is a vampire. I just feel it didn't quite work how she see's him, walks past and he just follows. Firstly it's not made apparent if school is finished or they just skip class. Secondly she doesn't tell him to follow, just gives him a glare and walks past which to me almost gives the impression he is able to hear her thoughts as she thinks "We need to talk, follow me". Wouldn't it have been easy to use the school bell so we know the school day has ended and as Bella walks past mutters something as simple as "We need to talk."?

That's all I can remember now anyway. There's a few so maybe that's all of them anyway. I don't want to bash the movie. :P What do you guys think? Have I got them wrong or do you agree?

I really disliked the fact that Bella had a lap top and a mobile phone in the film. She was supposed to have an ancient pc and so it was less frustrating for her to buy the book instead of attempting to look online for the info she needed.

I was also disappointed with the lack of time given to Edward and Bella getting to know each other. In the book a great deal of pages are dedicated to how they started sitting together in the cafeteria, how Edward walked her to and from class and how they bombarded each other with questions. The film (although I love it) doesn't portray how got to know each other. It went from him glaring at her in biology on her first day, to Bella asking him where he'd gone as if she already knew him then they have fallen in love without ever really talking to each other.( like others I fear sounding like I'm seriously bashing the film, when I'm not, I just had different interpritations than MR had) The whole meadow scene looked uncomforable, as in both characters looked really uncomfortable. By the time they go to the meadow they were supposed to know each other quite well and although Edward has his 'moment with the tree throwing' etc they are supposed to be relaxed with each other. I wish we'd seen them getting to the meadow, with Bella being frightened of what could happen, and Edward finding her curiosity amusing and alarming, him gliding through the forest at her speed while she trips etc, and her reaction when she first see's the meadow.

I agree with the Edwards bedroom, in the film it seemed tiny, yet I always got the impression it was pretty big.

The Victoria thing at the end was really confusing The smell, the mind reading thing and his fantastic eyesight surely would've given her away to him?

Edward honking his horn was out of character, especially when in Eclipse he finds Jacob doing the same thing rude.

I am so glad to have found this forum. My family doesn't understand why I get so aggrivated when I watch Twilight now.
Here are the things that bother me:
- They left out Jasper's ability completely  . His abilities are so much a part of the whole rest of the story in Eclipse especially that there was no point in leaving them out. All they had to do was say, "Alice can see the future and Jasper can alter your moods". Explaining that every vampire takes something over in the transition that is unique to them wouldn't have taken that much time.
- They did not spend as much time as they should have on the relationship between Edward and Bella. All he says is "I feel very protective of you", and "I don't know if I have the strength to stay away from you". Instead of something like, I find I can't seem to quit thinking about you. The whole resturaunt scene was a little rushed and choppy. I knew why Bella said, "huh" when the waitress walked off, because she was trying to get Edward's attention and he completely ignored her, but it didn't really show that.
- It almost seemed as though there should have been something in between the two scenes. They swerve into traffic and the music has everyone on the edge of their seat because Edward's talking about going back to kill Bella's would be attackers, and then cut to the quiet street with Angela and Jessica standing there looking around. Just didn't flow well for me.
- When he is driving Bella home, after he confirms that he can read every mind in the area except hers, and they drive past the police station. They both look confused and "My dad's still here" from Bella and "That's my father's car on the end. What's he doing here?" from out of Edward's mouth. I almost hit the floor. :? Don't you know why your dad's here?
- Edward sneaking into Bella's room was an every night occurance after the first night and they only showed that once. She isn't shown talking in her sleep which mortifies her when she finds out that Edward has been watching. Since he can't read her mind, her talking in her sleep is that much more embarassing.
- I wanted so much for them to do the blood typing scene...that whole scene was so ironic. Edward finding out the sight of blood, not even her own, makes her sick. I so wanted to see that brought to life. That was one scene that they shouldn't have changed. I know that it was before he confirmed what he was but the scene could have been done with hints. And Edward and Bella were sitting together at lunch by then.
- I wish they had put more of Bella looking through Edward's room...though I'm glad they didn't keep the line about the chinchilla poop thing. That just sounded stupid, but the journals were cool.
- Where are Jacob's older sisters that Bella knew? In the book, she didn't know who Jacob was at first. The one is supposed to end up with Paul in Breaking Dawn.
- Bella's heart monitor didn't go crazy when Edward kissed her or when she got upset because he told her she should go to Jacksonville. That is something that wouldn't have taken much and would have added so much to that scene. Instead of it just looking like her stuttering, it would have been more evident that Bella was confused and anxious by what he was saying.
- Victoria at the prom...awww come on. Edward would have sensed her there, smelled her and heard her. She was 50ft away from them when they first walked in.
I know there are other things that bother me throughout the movie. I did see Rosalie and Emmett chewing at one of the lunch shots. Not a big deal, and could have been part of the act. But some of these other things were just mind blowing that they left out or overlooked.

I really hate the way Roselie eyebrows have got darker over the course of the 3 movies so far & also that Esme's hair with it being so black makes her look harsh, I understand that they all wear wigs but why can't they match eyebrows, I ended up looking out for the bad wigs & brows through out the whole of Eclipse, which isn't great.

There are two that have always stood out to me as particularly stupid:

1. After Edward saves Bella from being smashed by the van, rather than staying with her like he does in the book to keep up the human facade, he hops up and jumps over her truck to get away...in full view of the girl parked behind Bella, who gets out of her car at the same time. So much for secrecy...

2. This one can probably be explained away as "the number was written somewhere in the house, or in Bella's school records," but it still irritates me every time since they don't actually show or explain that. In the book, Bella uses Alice's cell phone to call her mom's home phone and leave a message on the answering machine, giving her Alice's number so Renee can call her when she checks her messages. That's how James gets the number to call Bella and pretend he has her mom so he can lure her to the ballet studio. But in the movie, Bella calls her mom's cell phone from her own cell phone - there's no message on the machine for James to overhear, so he wouldn't have known her phone number.

What bothered me most about this part was; Why would you look up a topic online to find where to buy a book on that topic, and then get on the internet to search one word from a caption of a picture on the first page of the book you look at...? :?

I know, right?!? And walking away from Jasper and Alice was so easy. There was so much about Alice's vision changing when someone decides something and then she doesn't see this? Especially since they were just checking out of the hotel instead of waiting on Edward's plane at the airport.

I really wish they had had a bigger budget for this first film...The cafeteria salad bar was a good idea, but it never shows them sitting together at lunch. Just the one scene with the "super hero" line.
And it's only when they show up at school together that people start talking...nothing leading up to him saying, I'm breaking all the rules now anyway, since I'm going to hell. :banghead:
The meadow scene immediately following the revelation I think is what makes it so awkward. I think if there had been more time between those scenes, they could have been more comfortable around each other. If I'm not mistaken though, Kristen was only 17 when that was filmed, I remember hearing Rob say at one point that Catherine told him to watch it on those scenes, because she was under 18. They re-shot a couple after she turned 18.

I did like the way they showed them talking...in the trees, in her room and on the shore. They looked like they were really just talking and laughing instead of acting. ;) The scene where Edward is listening to Mike ask Bella to the prom is like that too. It's like they had all these shots of the actors goofing off between sets and cut some of them into the film.
Catherine took a lesson from Spielberg on that one. Two "conversations" going on at the same time, gives a lot of information but doesn't take up time that could be used on another shot.

Wonderful points, I must agree that the vampire powers of Jasper and Alice were very understated in the movie. It nearly doesn't make sense with the pacing if you watch the movie without reading the book.
