Hi - new old guy in town

Post by msmith9 »

Okay, I gotta tell you I'm going a little crazy here. I'm a 50+ year old straight married guy who is just nuts about Twilight. I only discovered my addiction less than a year ago, but I read all four books in a couple of weeks. I've seen all of the movies at least 2 or 3 times. I've read a ton of fan-fiction on my Kindle. I find myself waiting anxiously for the final movie to come out. I've driven my wife nuts with it. She is not a Twilight fan and thinks there must be a 13 year old girl in me struggling to get out. Nobody I know understands my attraction to it. Heck, I don't understand my attraction to it. There is nobody in my life I can talk to about Twilight, so I searched out online forums and this seems to be one of the best.

Surely I'm not the only 50+ year old guy hooked on Twilight? Am I? I would love to talk to others, if they exist.

I've tried to analyze my obsession and I've come to a couple of conclusions. I just love Bella and Edward. The idea of immortal love really is attractive to me. The idea of being so powerful, fast, immortal, and struggling against my nature to still do good really speaks to something within me. One of my favorite characters is Alice. I would love to meet someone like her in real life. I have to admit I'm not a big fan of Jacob. I find myself skipping over his parts in the books to get back to the Cullens.

I've always been drawn to fantasy stories. One of my all time favorite movies is Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. When I was a kid I loved the Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. I was much more attracted to Nancy Drew than the Hardy Boys. I also like Harry Potter and have read all of those books and seen every movie at least once.

I recently decided to check out books similar to Twilight and got hooked on PC Cast's House of Night series. I've read every one of the books in that series.

I don't know. My friends think I'm weird. What do you think? Is there something wrong with me?

Hi there! I don't think you're crazy. If you are, every single one of us here is crazy, too! While I don't know any other straight guys of your age that are Twilight fans, there are other straight guys here. I love it when guys like Twilight (I wish my husband did!). You're just one of us, my friend. Enjoy the ride!
