Re: Twilight Universe General Philosophical Musings

December - I've been thinking all day about your post. I also find it interesting that he can be so laid-back in his approach. Perhaps rather than lack of caring it's a case of accepting the inevitable without making a huge drama over it. We don't get to see his inner turmoil when others DO choose t...

Re: Twilight Universe General Philosophical Musings

I think there's a difference between forcing our opinions on others and making sure that they're as educated as possible about the choices that they're making. Rosalie never tried to make Bella's choice for her - she tried very hard to make Bella understand why she thought she was making a huge mist...

Re: The Third Table

You've got a very good point there, both December and Pubesy. I think there must be something to that thirst that allows them to overcome their feelings of humanity so thoroughly and so quickly. And I think perhaps enduring 3 days of unendurable pain may add to that separation. I know when I'm in pa...

Re: The Third Table

I really hadn't thought of it in that light. I kind of equated it to my own newborns, who were famished every 2-3 hours for the first few months. It seemed to be all they really did, eat and sleep, and newborn vampires can't sleep so it just leaves eating! But it's interesting, because their food so...

Re: Heavenly Hash--a thread for the "older" Twilight crowd

Oh, Lisa - I actually cried too. What great news! We're planning on visiting the site if we can when we're in Rome. Have they announced the actual location? Nissanmama - the site pictures are lovely. I didn't realize they had them up! Lisa - WOW! What a great thing to be able to go over with your fa...

Re: Heavenly Hash--a thread for the "older" Twilight crowd

Oh, Italian cooking. . . 5 more months and I'm there to soak in all of the flavor once more (I'm saving extra for my gelato allowance)! I can't wait. We're huge pumpkin pie fans around here so that's the direction we'll go - no cheese. ;) I do like a nice sharp cheddar cheese with crispy apples - bu...

Re: The Third Table

Thanks for the reminder, December! When there's something we all feel so passionate about but come at from different viewpoints we can start sounding a bit self-righteous and preachy without particularly meaning to.

Re: The Third Table

First I don't think Alcyone's point was "bad things" it was violence afflicted by men. It's the preponderance of this violence happening to women with no corresponding violence to men. Edward died of the flu. Emmett died after a bear attack these things happen in life. Esme, Rose and to s...

Re: The Third Table

If bad things happening to women in a book is anti-feminist, then by the same logic Dickens was anti-youth and Weisel was anti-Semite. I think it's an important distinction that these acts are not glorified in the book. They're horrific crimes. Esme lived in a time when women were often mistreated -...

Re: Twilight Universe General Philosophical Musings

That's interesting, Cullengirl! I have a hard time imagining souls just ceasing to exist when the being's existance goes on. Actually - I just have a hard time imaginging souls ceasing to exist at all. Even when a soul is "sold" or "traded" in literature it seems to be less a snu...
