Why would Carlisle need to hunt? Being a surgeon, reason only follows that he would swipe a unit of blood for lunch. Would completely align with how much he respects life . Donated blood = Zero life lost. And since he has risen above the thirst, I don't quite see the harm. I picture him sipping it out of a wine glass while reading up on the latest surgical procedures in his study. AB pos.. mm Mmm good

But it's human blood that he would be drinking correct? The whole point is not to take blood from a human no matter how it's attained and isn't that the part of the "veggy" lifestyle not to take human blood, no matter how it's obtained?

Now that I'm thinking about it, I wounder why they have a storage of blood that they feed to Bella during the birthing of Nessie. I wonder if they have it just in case a really life threating situation happens because human blood makes them stronger and would only be used in a dire emergency.

I can appreciate what you mean by abiding to the "veggy" lifestyle. Though perhaps I should clarify what I meant.

donated blood = zero life lost > killing Simba = one life lost

I'm sure Carlisle would see that line of reason. Carlisle who, above all other vamps, cherishes all life, even that of animals. I am certain. Carlisle. Does. Not. Hunt.

As to the storage of blood - emergency use? or Carlisle's personal wine cellar? potatoes potahtoes

Well I think we have to go back here to how Edward describes Bella's scent as 'excactly his brand of heroine'.
They decided to be 'vegetarians', to not thouch the heroine, I think it would make it extremly hard to go back keeping self control if you cheated once, even if the the blood is dead.

Alcoholics that go through AA don't drink at all anymore aswell. One glass of wine can kill the effort they had for years. Even if they didn't drank alchohol for 20 years one glass of wine can set them off again and make them lose self controle once over.
So I think it's a bit the same. Deny it all over cause one taste of human blood can make it very hard to resist temptation in the future.

And on top of that, Carlisle is an extremly worthy man. He would never lower himself to drink human blood, to take distance of the 'vegetarian lifestyle' is so proud about.

I believe that they mentioned in the book that the store of human blood is for Bella when she becomes a new born. I think it was just in case she did smell human blood and went crazy they could satiate her with the stolen blood and then no one's life would be lost.
As well, it was also mentioned somewhere (I can't remember if it was the books or Stephanie's Personal Correspondence) that if they drank human blood, it would make it harder for them to resist humans themselves and so they had to cut themselves off completely.
And lastly, Carlisle wouldn't be drinking the human blood at the hospital because otherwise his eyes would be red, and also that stored blood could be used to save someone's life. He would never take from it unless it was necessary. He values human life much more than animals lives and would of course hunt animals.

The blood isn't for feeding newborn Bella, they'd be trying to wean her of human blood before she even drank it, the newborn phase is like the first three days of quitting a habit cold turkey. They were lucky that Bella had a common blood type. The blood was in case there was an emergency while she was pregnant/human, and needed a transfusion, thats why its all O positive.

Thank you! I knew it was for Bella for some reason  . For some reason I thought of when she was a newborn, even though it sounded wrong.

No problem. :D A newborn with easy access to human blood would be kinda scary. kinda really scary.

Yeah I thought that too but then I thought if she's going for a human and they throw a bag of blood at her, it might distract her long enough to get her away from the human. Then I thought... that would be a dumb idea, this human sees her coming at them and then suddenly she's ripping into a bag of blood and people are escorting her away... lol.. the scene is actually quite amusing in my head... Though I guess we should get back to the real topic of this forum... what do you think Bella and Renesmee's favourite animals would be?
