This is not a chat; this is a forum. You post and the posts remain to allow others to comment, discuss or debate. You do not need another to be on at the same time as you.

Related, the thread is turning more chat-like. You can discuss usernames through PM; let's keep this solely focused on the character himself.

Ah Aro. I can't really say he's my favourite of the Volturi, cuz I do so love them all... and they are all very complex characters. I completely missed the description of Aro the first time around, and I always pictured him as bald. Not bald like losing his hair from old age, but bald as in 'shaved head'. I have some old fan art kicking around somewhere that still show his incredibly talented cranium.

I don't see the wives so much as submissive as much as they are like queens. They leave the political stuff to their hubbies and spend their time being waited on hand and foot. I mean if even Aro, Caius, and Marcus started to petrify because they didn't move much, then clearly the wives staying in the tower isn't because they were confined there, but rather they wouldn't have much need to leave.

Going back a few pages, I have a theory about the half-vamps and Aro's interest in them. I personally think he would definitely experiment and study them. And Nahuel is fully grown, and I don't remember if his father is still procreating, but I imagine Aro would want to study one (or several) from conception to birth to adulthood... the whole cycle. And his use for them, well it seems, from Renesmee anyway, that her powers are somewhat hereditary... so if the most powerful of the Volturi and their Guard reproduced, they would have children with these powers in case something were to happen to the original (since they seem fairly dependent on the Guard's powers... eg Jane and Alec), and I imagine the half-vamps would pass as human much easier... while they are growing they wouldn't sparkle (at least as much), and having a heart beat and warm body temp and eating human food... I can imagine that vampires who can easily pass as human would be an asset to the Volturi. Obviously some humans work for them knowing what they are (Gianna), but then they would have to depend on the humans' reaction to them. Vampires who pass as human would be putting the ball back in their court, so to speak.

And whether or not Aro is a doting and devoted hubby to Sulpicia, I doubt any child of his would find him much of a doting, devoted father. He or she would be powerful, beautiful, and lonely.

EDIT: Actually, I don't know that I can say that. Even if it is an act, I guess his actions in New Moon toward Edward and Co... But I still don't really see him as much of a father. Any interest I believe would be purely scientific. But you can never really say, right? He loved his sister, but then he killed her.

If he said, "Peace," one more flipping time, I was going to go get my wand, fall into the book and slap him silly.
finally someone who agrees with me
in nm i liked aro i thought he was genuinely peaceful and kind and forgiving
but in BD i saw him for the snake he truly is
he's so manipulative he puts snape and voldemort to shame
i wouldn't say i hate him per se, i would just like to watch him die very very slowly, naw
but i still dislike him with a passion

I love Aro.

He's possibly the evilest of them all considering that at first in New Moon, he tricked me into thinking he was a sort of ADHD grandfather who loved giving out candy to his children. Then later on, he takes off his grandpoppy mask and reveals himself to be a conniving little Ronald McDonald.

Yeah, you know what, he IS the Ronald McDonald of the Twilight world...except without the makeup, and the wig, and the costume, and the....

Yeah, you get what I mean, though right? When I was little, Ronald McDonald tricked me into thinking he was a funny ol' clown with mental problems...boy, was I wrong. That's the exact same thing I think of Aro.

Your logic is wonderful, though I think that I'll stay in my fantasy world where the Volturi wives are unloved and forced into a tower. It makes me a lot happier ^^

Hmm, perhaps. I hadn't thought of that. Although, I can't imagine that the Volturi themselves would have children. They'd be more likely to study the child of another vampire (maybe from the Guard?).

*swoon* That's a wonderful description.

And that one is...interesting. Haha!

Aro is an...interesting character. :P
i actually like the Volturi, not like i want them to win or anything but they are pretty awesome. i find it strange that Aro is always all happy but it's also funny too :D
is it just me, or did anyone else find it creepy when he kissed Jane on the lips in New Moon? i was like, "Ew. Pedophile!" lol. just kidding.
yeah, Aro is probably the funniest Volturi. although Caius is also funny when he gets all worked up. Felix is hilarious because he's such a player
Also, i thought it was weird that Aro is afraid of Bella in BD :?

That's a possibility. Honestly I don't think that it would make much difference who fathered the wee Vampchens, really. I just thought that since Aro is so powerful he might want to see how much age and powers of the father would affect the power level of the baby vamp. At least its something that I find very interesting.

Well Jane may be physically young but mentally she's much older. (Like Claudia in Interview with the Vampire... physically a child but mentally she still ages and eventually "grows up") Even if it was sexual, which I highly doubt it was, given that Aro's married and Jane is a subordinate.
And I didn't think it weird that Aro was afraid of Bella. Already he is unnerved by her, since his power has no effect on her, so he's at a disadvantage. He relies on his telepathy and then is reasonably jolted when he can't use it on Bella. He probably feels like he's missing a sense with her. Imagine if there was someone you met who you couldn't see? And then in BD, she has the added strength of being a newborn, with all the control and reason of an older vampire. Bella even bested EMMETT, and Aro's certainly not him as far as strength. Aro's strength lies in his telepathy. And we're back to point A. So really, I didn't find it weird at all. Bella WAS a threat to Aro.

ok, yeah, she WAS a threat, it just took a while for the pieces to really fit together for me... :)
no, i don't think it was sexual, like you said {because if it was...(shudder shudder)} it just creeped me out a bit

Aro kissing Jane on the lips creeps me out too! :!: In my life, lips are for spouses, only! The kids get kisses on their faces, but not on their lips!
