Wisconsin. Just as rainy as England, but more snow and colder. Really good cheese here, so that makes up for some of the cold weather.

I love that you can feel the pain and can't just brush off the problems that the characters in SM's books have. They haunt them, which is much more realistic to me. I hate it when a character in a book or movie goes through something terrible, and then it just dissipates from them, leaving them unaffected. What makes us stronger has to eat at us first, and it is the scars from those wounds and the muscles developed in the fight that make characters strong enough for the battles they face.

On the lighter side, SM does the best one-liners of almost any author out there, and I just love that. :)

Howdy, My Wisonsin friend :D

I love rain, hate snow. cheese is good. WOOP!

*ahem* anywho, I know exactly what you mean.
In BBC's Robin Hood in particular, Maid Marian was killed by Guy Of GIsborne and then two months after she's dead and buried, Robin for some reason, cannot forgive the man who killed his wife, but can get with his sister and one of the village girls.

I mean, WTF?

although, countering that, i'm sure most of us all the way through the host just wanted people to accept Wanda. Not all the way through, but when just a few started to be nice - Like Ian, Jeb and Doc and there were still loads who were totally hateful. then, i just wanted them to forgive and forget.

so i suppose you just need to get the right balence.

That was one of the things that I like best about Host, that the people take a while to get over their pain and be OK with Wanda. I am reading the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries (True Blood the show is based off of these but only loosely), and this is one area that the author stinks at. Sookie and all her friends just accept and move on way too easily.

OK, so here is a question, can you imagine sweet, timid Wanda with a headstrong toddler? If the Souls ever do start raising babies (like the one on the swing) then they may just meet their doom when the kids hit about age two or so.

Better yet, hormonal teens!

Sorry, I am a mom, and I know how hard it is to raise kids.

Kyle would be the uncle that teaches the kid to do all the stuff that Wanda would freak about, like using a gun and rappelling down a sheer cliff wall. I had an uncle like that, and I loved him but my mom wanted to kill him. Can you imagine what she would do the first time the kid tries to play army? What happens when the kids brings home a live snake as a pet?
You're right, I should do a fanfic.

I am semi-ordering you as DCI of the world :P
^^^ Its a joke me and love_is_noise have. we're going to take over the world you see :D

anyway, that's another time, another place, another vaseline cake...

uhm, so where were we? Oh yes,

I suppose my biological timelord father would fill that gap xD
to be honest, my biological human mother could fill that gap! those two are loco (I mean, she is the only one who would be stupid enough to get pregnant by a timelord *rolls eyes*)

Ok, i am very much straying off the subject.
Uhm...

Oh yeah, i bought my first copy of the host the other day and I bought it for my friend for his birthday.

Spread the SM love? I think so...

OOft, can't wait to re-read!

One of my friends started reading the Host, but she didn't get very far because the beginning is slow. Of course, I told her to keep reading because it gets so much better. Not sure if she listened or not...
I don't think any of my friends have actually finished the Host, even though some of them love Twilight. I wonder why lots of Twilighters don't consider reading the Host.

maybe its because SM's writing isn't all that amazing but the TWILIGHT concept is what people love.

so they don't know if they'll like an SM novel without our favourite vampire coven...

The novel does start out slowly, but I think that people are simply more into "Paranormal romance" than straight sci-fi. The Host is almost a study in character development, so there is less action and dialogue (which I loved in Twilight) and much more personal narative. Also, Wanda becomes a beloved character only after she gets humanized. The initial introduction is very jarring and it is much more work to get to know Wanda (although very worth it) than Bella. Bella is truly like everyone in some way, and you can slip into her narrative effortlessly.

SM did a great job at switching to a sci-fi style and the Host is a wonderful book, it's just a harder book to read and relate to. Still, very well done and very worth it, though.

Yeah, the host is definately my favourite book.

But I absolutely love Wanda. and Melonie but I hate Bella!

Seriously, does it not annoy everyone else that Edward and Jacob and everyone are always saying 'OOohhh! Bella's Sooo selfless!!!'

That is rubbish! she's Uber Selfish!

I mean, she's all Jacob love me! Edward love me! why doesn't everyone love me?! <3<3<3 No Edward, don't help save your family! sit with me so we can do more kissing and I can push you further and further until one day I force you into turning me into a vampire!!!

Yeah Bells, REAL selfless ¬_¬

Ugh. I could write more but I think there's language restrictions on this site :x
