Hey All,
Im new here and I was wondering... How can we convince, beg, and/or persuade SM to write Garret and Kate's story. I want to know more about Garrets adventures and I want to know about the love story. Does anyone feel the same?

I was devistated (as we all were) when I read SM posting on her website about Midnight Sun! For me Midnight Sun was going to be the little glimmer of hope to prolong the whole Twilight world...and now to hear that she may NEVER pick it back up is absolutely crushing! I COMPLETELY understand her point though, it has to be gut wrenching to have someone betray your trust on this level - I'm sure I wouldn't want to go back to it for a while if I were her.

I feel like Midnight Sun was going to be the perfect way to end the series though - we went through the entire thing from Bella's perspective (except a few chapters here and there) and then to be able to read Midnight Sun (in its entirety) and get a wonderful glimpse into Edward's perspective - finally, being able to go back into New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn and understand those stories even better because we understand Edward even better...does that make any sense? I mean what would the story be without Edward and his overreactions?

I haven't been able to bring myself to open the partial draft of Midnight Sun that was posted on SM's website...I personally feel like it would be another betrayal to her - since this wasn't how she wanted us to really meet Edward. I'm definately not critisizing those who have read it, I'm actually kind of jealous that you have...I think I might hold out for a couple of months...wait for the movie (however that turns out)...see if she mentions it on her website again...I just don't want to completely give up hope yet that it will NEVER be published. My fingers are crossed for it to be in our hands within 2 years.

So here is a question for all of you: What if Stephenie was right when she said that writing Midnight Sun isn’t something she can she can sit down and do just because we really, really want her to?

What if it isn’t like cooking supper? Any competent cook can peel potatoes, and put the meat in the oven, but we’re not here because Stephenie wrote a competent vampire romance -- we’re here because what she wrote was little short of inspired. By her own account, Stephenie was possessed by the story of Twilight. By characters who all but spoke to her inside her head. Who in some sense wrote Twilight -- and Midnight Sun.

That’s not something a writer can command. So the question is: do we really want her to hurry up and finish Midnight Sun -- any old way -- just so we can have the book on our shelves next year? Or is the right ending worth waiting for -- however long it takes?

Should we be begging her not to write one more word until it’s a labour of love again?

alright, i've had a few days to cool down about this and honestly, i really am angry at Stephenie right now. i get that she feels betrayed and doesn't have the head to write the rest of it. but she's the one WHO GAVE AWAY what was leaked. So it's HER FAULT. go ahead and agrue and say she couldn't have known it would be LEAKED but she knew the risk and what she was doing. She didn't stop us giving us Breaking Dawn when some people got it early and put it online. No, she lets us have the book. I think Stepehenie is acting very childish and giving the person who LEAKED it exactly what they want. and she basically just slapped all of us in the face, those who have been loyal and everything to a fault. I really have to wonder if i can even support her anymore. Honestly, i have no intention of going to see the movie right now, that will most likely change, but as of right now, I do not want to support Stepehenie. I'm angry and I feel like Stephenie is punishing all of us for one person mistake. and that isn't fair to the rest of us (yes life isn't fair but so what).

i honestly read and loved the first 12 chapters. they were some of the greatest words ever written and i've been waiting for Edward's POV since I first picked up Twilight. so now that the rest of the story is done, we finally can have it and then she just stops because of one person? it's not justified.

i do have one question that lingers constantly in my head. she signed the contract in June to publish Midnight Sun. so that means she has to finish it and get it out. and contracts are almost impossible to get out of. either she'll have to finish writing it or pay a crap load of money to get out of it.

Well said!! We readers have the easy part: just sit down and open the book and enjoy. The work of writing that book and getting it ready for publication is much different.

I for one think the perfect ending is definitely worth waiting for. And it makes sense to me that the best way to support Stephenie is to stop pressuring her to complete Midnight Sun. The pain from this incident will heal, and the drive to let our favorite bronze-haired vampire tell his side of the story will return. (I can't imagine that this story would not, eventually, be published, in spite of what's happened.)

I want that bound copy of Midnight Sun on my shelf, too. But I want it to be the result of love and not because her vocal fans demanded it. Let's not force it to happen. You can't force good writing.

Very well stated, December.

"Why do we fall down?"
"So we can pick ourselves up!"

That's my favorite Batman quote, because it's 100% true.

This negative needs to be turned into a positive, a learning experience, one of many she has yet to learn in the career she chose. Yes she needs to come to terms with what happen, but she can't hide behind it and dwell on it indefinitly. She needs to "get back on that horse" and "start riding it again", otherwise she will never recover, and the next bad thing that happens just might make her decide to stop writing all together.... and I don't think anybody wants to see that.

Authors are at the mercy of bad reviews, bad selling numbers and the risk of seeing some of their work leaked ahead of time. I don't believe for 1 second that there is one respected author out there that never had to deal with any of those, more than once. That first time is always the worst, trick is to snap out of it, and get back on track.

Why let 1 person ruin something you LOVED doing. Why let 1 person have that much power over you.

I was devastated to hear that Midnight Sun was leaked and therefore may never be published. I was really looking forward to it and from the first chapter I believe it will be my favorite book in the series if I ever get to read it. I knew nothing about the leak before reading Stephenie's comment on her website and I have not read the leaked chapters. The only way I will read it is if Stephenie informs us that she definitely will never pick up Midnight Sun and work on it again. As long as I have some hope (even the tiniest bit) that it will eventually be completed, I can't bring myself to read her draft.

I write as a hobby myself and would love to become a published author some day so I can empathize with her pain. I rarely ever let anyone read the work I've done because I don't feel it's complete. It can be embarrassing and violating to have someone read a draft. They're seeing you unpolished and unrefined. A draft contains all of your flaws. Sometimes you have to give out your drafts though because you need other people's opinions. You want to catch mistakes or see if something sounds realistic BEFORE sending it to an editor. So you give your drafts to people who are close to you, people you believe you can trust.

I personally work solely on inspiration and emotions and it seems like Stephenie is the same way, or at least similar. I start writing a story because that's where my inspiration is at the moment, but then something can come along and change my inspiration so I begin a new story. I always hope that someday my inspiration for that story I left unfinished will come back and sometimes it does. So I'm just keeping my hopes alive that one day Stephenie's inspiration for Midnight Sun will return.

Basically what I'm saying is, I understand everything Stephenie is going through and why she feels the way she does. I don't blame her for anything. I know that she's not trying to punish anybody. She just can't continue working on a book when her feelings about it have been tainted. I'm not angry, just sad for her and for us. And I really hope that, given enough time, she'll be drawn back to Midnight Sun and WANT to finish it. I think December really made a valid point though. I don't want a book that feels forced because her heart isn't in it. So I'll wait as long as I have to, forever if need be.

That is a really good question!!! I have been wondering the same thing as well! Does she have a contract? I didn't hear anything about her actually signing one I just thought that she was making it her next project (although I guess it would make sense, she did write 12 chapters so she probably would have had one).

I do know however (keep in mind that this is grade 12 canadian law so it could be different in the states or in a more in depth look into it) that if both parties want to break the contract that there won't be any penalty to either side. If they think that they won't get sales because half of the book is on the internet then they could pull out and well obviously Stephenie would too because she needs more time. Keep in mind that is just a situation I made up to use as an example, it did not happen.

Like so many others, I fervently hope that Stephenie Meyer will eventually complete Midnight Sun and release it for publication. As an earlier commenter said, the book will only be what it should be when Stephenie is emotionally ready to write it, and we will all have to wait and hope for that day. I suspect that she was starting to feel burned out with the Twilight saga and somewhat impatient to focus on other projects, so that the leak was a last straw. Given her love for her characters and her enjoyment of Edward's point of view, I am fairly optimistic that, once she has refreshed her spirits with family, "me time" and other projects, she will be ready and happy to return to Midnight Sun.
