As someone who has been through school and taken all of the AP English classes and several college English courses...

Try to enjoy some of the books you have to read. Some of them are truly great novels. I hate reading things if I HAVE to, but I've reread several books I had to read in High School/College, and some are my very favorites...

I.E.
Catcher in the Rye
Heart of Darkness
Crime & Punishment
Great Gatsby
To Kill A Mockingbird
ALL Shakespeare.

English is the best subject =)

I have to read "The Killer Angels" for American History.

Oh dear lord.

This reminds me of the hell I went through in High School.
My teacher was pure evil.
She made us read 50-75 pages, per night.
If you didn't read, you're basically screwed.

But anyways.
I loved some of the books we read actually.
I could remember some of them were:

-The Great Gatsby
-Mice & Men
-Catcher in the Rye
-Romeo & Juliet<3

Hmm. That's all I could name for now.
One of the books I hated was Grapes of Wrath.
It was sooooooo boring.
Totally zzz'd when I read.

Of Mice and Men was so sad, but so good.

This year we had to read "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hoseini (can't spell it.) Gaah. I didn't like it at all. I can't read a book where I really hate the main character. It was just painful. Plus, the content was pretty depressing.

AMEN!!!! I remember reading Catcher In the Rye and Lord of the Flies before it was forced on me, so that I would enjoy it. I loved both books... and just my luck. It was never required reading for me.

The only book I was ever required to read that I actually liked was "Tortuga" I can't remember the author and I am too lazy to look it up.

Reading Romeo & Juliet was torture. That killed off any desire I ever had for Shakespear. I also remember having to read Grapes of Wrath. I wonder now if it was a good book. I certainly hated reading it and fell asleep when my techer showed us the movie.

The Kite Runner was so good!!!! I'm mad that you were forced to read it. That ruined the book for you!!!!!

ahhh!!! To Kill A Mockingbird was another painful required reading memory!!!! The I saw the play 10 years later and realized it was kinda good.

We are doing short stories at the moment I forget the name but it's one of those science fiction everything goes wrong sort of thing. I remember one I was reading last year Harrison Bergeron good corrupt society future book if you ask me.

There's never any list of books we have to read, but this year in English we're studying MacBeth,Lord of the Flies, and Death of a Salesman.

Last year, we read Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, Fahrenheit 451, Into the Wild, Into Thin Air, Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, ummmmm. Oh, Beowulf. I forget what else. This year, so far, we've read Founding Brothers, The Life of a Narrative of Frederick Douglass an American Slave, and The Crucible.

I absolutely loved Fahrenheit 451! I also really liked Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice, but how could you not love those? I hated Beowulf, Into the Wild, and Into Thin Air. The rest of them were really good, though. Oh, we also had to read The Monkey's Paw.
