Chapter 24: Surprise

Thanks go to the lovely Oleander for these questions.

1. The tentative friendship between Bella and Rosalie has survived Renesmee’s arrival intact. Why do you think Rosalie is more tolerant of Bella since Bella still went ahead with the change? Do you agree with Bella when she says it’s because she’d finally made the same choice that Rosalie would have made if she was in the same position?

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways?

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage?

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control?

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings?

I think Rosalie starts to soften to Bella at the wedding, when she realizes how much Bella really loves Edward. When Bella asks Rosalie to help during the pregnancy their relationship is strengthened because they are working together. These things combined with the fact that Bella did choose the same as Rosalie would have, is why she is now okay with Bella.

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways?
I thought se would be herself, mostly, but also a little blood crazed. I thought she wouldn't be as bad as the savage new borns but I didn't think she would have it completely under control.

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage?
I thought it was so cool of her to give them a house. It seems like it would be exactly Bella's style. A nice, small and cosy more rustic house and not a bunch of fancy things just like Bella would like it.

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control?
After Bella's initial reaction to kissing Edward after she was changed, this response did not surprise me much. She was already overwhelmed before she was changed and when you're a vampire it's even more so. Also, it was probably very different for Edward that he didn't have to focus constantly on not killing her, like he had described it before.
I wasn't surprised about the others. Especially, with Rosalie and Emmett because it fits their personalities.

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings?
I don't think he exactly misses it but it is probably very different after being used to that burn, the rhythm of her heart, and her warm human skin, that would just be how he experienced being with her so it would be new with the changes. Also, he had always said he would miss her blushing, so maybe he missed that. He probably thought of all this and then came to the conclusion that he gained more than he lost.

Rose knows that Bella had no more choice in becoming a vampire if she was going to stay alive, so I don't think Rose can criticize her for that any more. But, I do agree with Bella. Rose accepted Bella's change because she had to do it to have a baby, the same way Rose would do anything to have a child.

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways?
I didn't really expect her to be irrevocably changed in all ways because that would have made the story dumb. But, I guess I did expect her to be a little different, maybe a little more wild than she was.

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage?
I thought it was a really nice thing to do, totally Esme. I imagine the cottage was pretty and charming and just exactly what Bella and Edward would have wanted.

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control?
Judging by the fact that Bella was so drawn to Edward before she changed, I wasn't surprised at all that they were drawn in so intensely to their desires. After reading about what Bella and Edward were feeling I wasn't surprised about the others. It made perfect sense that they got some of their fill of each other during the night when Edward pointed out that there were a lot of unfilled hours during the night.

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings?
I'm sure he is still scared of having taken Bella's soul from her, and I would be willing to bet he misses how she looked and felt as a human. But, I would be willing to bet that he is really happy about Bella being changed. He can be himself completely with Bella and he can love her completely and without restraint. That would make anyone happy.

Yay!!Really new thread!! Cool :D

I think Rosalie is more tolerant of Bella even though she goes the change because she married Edward first and then changed and not the other way around. Maybe if she had changed first then, she might have had a problem with that. I do agree that as far as having to choose between aborting the pregnancy or having Renesmee she did make the same choice that Rosalie would have made.

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways?
I did not expect her personality to change at all as far as hating suprises and receiving gifts. I sort of expected her to act a little more like a newborn vamp, maybe a little more blood crazed.

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage?
I really liked the idea of the cottage and sort of expected that since it was mentioned before hand that Rosalie and Emmett sometimes lived separately from the rest of the family. The style of the cottage is exactly right for Bella and Edward.

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control?
I was not expecting Edward or Bella to lose control the way they did sometimes. I was really shocked to see the rest of the family lose control since they are always in control and this time around we really got to see them being themselves more.

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings?
I think he does miss some of those things like he said before: when she blushes or just listening to her heart beating, but when he doesn't have to kiss an inferno and watch himself while she tried to cross his safety boundaries while they were alone and not crush her when he is holding her then I don't think he misses that

Do you agree with Bella when she says it’s because she’d finally made the same choice that Rosalie would have made if she was in the same position? I think that might be part of it. I also think that Rosalie has realized and come to accept that Bella is part of the family and will be with Edward forever.

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways? I didn't think her personality would change much. I figured she be much the same.

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage? iI was surprised and thought that it was sweet. It really shows how much she loves both Bella and Edward and wants them to stay with the family. I love Esme, she is the coolest mother ever. I really wish we got to see her more in the saga.

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control? What we learned here did surprise me some. It was kind of weird to learn how uncontroled they are. I just didn't expect it, but it makes sense why Edward was always so careful & very hesitant & not wanting to make love before Bella was changed.

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings? I thought that he was being in honest, I didn't seem him as dancing around the question (I may need to reread this part though it's been a long time.) I think he might miss a little bit (her brown eyes and her blush stuff about her he liked) but I think he would also enjoy the vampire Bella because he doesn't have to worry all the time & they can love each other (and other things) equally as Bella states.

Yes I agree with Bella.

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways?
No I never even thought about that.

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage?
I thought it was so cute sounding and so sweet of her to do that for them.

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control?
No, I thought they'd be unable to resist, after their honeymoon. No, I thought it was cool to find out what the others do at night.

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings?
I believe that he doesn't really miss it, but I don't know why he was dancing around the question.

I agree with Bella, because Rose explained in Eclipse she was only distant with Bella because she'd give anything to be human, and Bella is casually trading away everything Rosalie wishes she had. I also think Rosalie thought Edward loved Bella more than she loved Emett. I remember Stephanie Myer once saying that Rosalie thinks of herself as a main character, and she and Emmett are the beautiful love story. When Edward refused to change Bella, it looked like he loved Bella more than Rose loves Emett, because she was a bit selfish with her demands that Carlisle change Emett for her. Now that Bella's a vampire, Rosalie can once again think she and Emmett love each other more than anyone, because Edward has committed the selfish act of changing Bella.

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways?
That part completely shocked me. I expected the rest of the book to revolve around what little control Bella has over herself. I thought she was going to go on some mad killing spree by accident. But I thought, when she had Renesmee and lived, that Nessie would make her feel more human again, as she is the last and probably most important link to Bella's human life and to who she was.

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage?
I saw sat for ages going AWWWWWW haha. I thought it was such a sweet gesture and an excellent "birthday present." I also laughed when they all disappeared to give Bella and Edward some alone time.

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control?
I expected them to be incredibly drawn in. I mean come on this is what they've wanted since at least Eclipse! They've spent so long exercising control I thought they deserved to go completely wild haha! I wasn't shocked at all to learn about Emmett and Rose and their lack of control. Emmett has "sex obsessed" written all over him!!

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings?
I think he misses how easy she was to read. It annoys the hell out of him that he can't read her mind, and the only consolation he got was how bad a liar she was. Now she's a vampire she can't blush when she's lying, so he's going to have to be able to read her a whole lot better. But other than that I don't think he has any regrets.

Do you agree with Bella when she says it’s because she’d finally made the same choice that Rosalie would have made if she was in the same position?
The pregnancy and birth definitely had a lot to do with the improvement of the relationship between Bella and Rosalie. First of all, I think Rosalie was touched that Bella would actually turn to her for help. And I think, in Rosalie's mind, there was no doubt that Bella made the right choice. And I also think that Rosalie saw how strong Bella really is, and that she was willing to fight for and die for her baby and for Edward. So Rosalie gained a lot of respect for Bella. As for her going ahead with the change, it was necessary. Bella would have died if she didn't, and Rosalie understood and accepted that when she agreed to protect Bella and her baby.

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways?
No, I always assumed that her personality would remain the same.

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage?
I loved it. And it was the perfect place for Bella and Edward. Small and cozy.

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control?
No, we already knew that Bella desired Edward long before her change, and that they both enjoyed the honeymoon. And the headboard and feathers gave indication that Edward really had to restrain himself when she was still human, so it makes sense that they could really let loose once she was changed. And her senses where strengthened, so it's no wonder that she desired him even more than before.

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings?
No, I don't think he regrets it at all. Not when he saw the way it turned out. They got their perfect forever. But I do think he misses the small things. Like listening to her heart. That was so precious to him. And I think he misses her warm skin and her blush. I just think he dances around the question because he doesn't really miss anything major, and he doesn't want her to think that he liked her more before she changed or that he regrets it, because he doesn't, and she might take whatever he would say as an indication that he did.

- yes, I do agree with Bella, if you fight together for something so precious is creates a bond

2. Bella is happy and somewhat amazed that she is still very much “herself,” even after the change, like her hatred of surprises. Did you have any expectations that Bella’s personality would be altered, that she would be irrevocably changed in all ways?
- I had expected more change, I would have liked it if she had a bit more problems ajusting to the vampire life. But I do like that she is like she was...

3. Esme went to great lengths to give Bella and Edward a place of their own. What was your reaction to the cottage?
- I loved it. It was unexpected, I had thought they would move as soon as Bella was changed, but the cottage was a great idea

4. Some interesting desires come to surface during this chapter. Were you expecting Bella and Edward to be so drawn in by them or were you expecting them to be more in control? Were you shocked to learn about the other members of the family and their lack of control?
- No, I expected Bella and Edward to be even more physical...Now Edward could give in to his desires with out being scared of hurting her, of course it would get more steemy between them.

5. Bella fears that Edward will miss her humanness. When she confronts him, he initially dances around answering the question. Do you believe that Edward really doesn’t miss it? Do you think he has some regrets or misgivings?
- well after reading his explanation in Eclipse about why he doesn't want to change her, I had expected him to feel a bit of regret but he did it to save her, so now, No I knew he wouldn't have any regrets
