I think BD is the one I will be most conflicted about. Of course I want it to be amazing, but I also have that slight apprehension because I do not want to get my hopes up. It is not even August yet and I am already obsessing over it.....I am so doomed.

Yeah, me too. I think the first half of part 1 will be wonderful, but I'm worried about what they are going to do to the second half. I am terrified they will amp up the tension between Bella and Edward over the pregnancy, to make it more dramatic, or whatever - to escalate the conflict (conflict is always good in movies) - and I just don't want to see that. I've had enough of that in the past two movies.

Exactly! That is how I feel. I think the wedding and honeymoon will be great to finally see, but am worried about what they will do with Edward's character after that. They tend to really mess with his reactions and such, so I am worried that they will use hype and instead of creating the tension that was in the book, they will make everything too over the top like they did with the love triangle. It became cheesy with how Jacob and Edward taunted each other and stopped being about a serious choice Bella needed to make. Hopefully that doesnt happen again, but this is MR and Summit we are talking about. Things tend to go downhill at times.

Jacob and Edward did have their sparring sessions in the book, though, so I didn't really have a problem with that, except for the fact that the acting in those scenes seemed a little flat. But then, everything seemed flat to me all the way through Eclipse, and it seemed like everyone was trying a bit too hard.

I am well aware that it was in the book. I didnt mind the sparring sessions, I minded how they were portrayed in the film. The cheesiest line that comes to mind is "Let's face it, I am hotter than you." That made me roll my eyes because while I got that it was supposed to be witty it just came off as an overly obvious line. Maybe it was delivery, I really dont know but it just didnt come off like the lines Jacob would say in the book. Jacob was funny in the book and clever even when he wasnt subtle. They kind of took the fun out of his one liners though, either making them too serious or too cheesy. Then too, that might be more that it is hard for me to take Taylor Lautner serious as Jacob Black than the lines itself. I loved Taylor as pre-transformation Jacob, he is adorable, but when I watch the films, I see Taylor, not Jacob. I can usually get lost in a film pretty easily, but there is something about him that doesnt quite do it for me. It isnt even that he looks nothing like Jake in appearance.....height, frame, build, hair....but the voice that comes out when he speaks is too adorable to take seriously. Jake might have still been a kid at heart, but he definitely grew up and looked like a young man quite quickly. Taylor still looks like he could pull off sixteen or seventeen whereas Jake was supposed to look older than he was and he was certainly a much bigger guy. After all, they grow them big on the reservation lol.

I agree about Taylor, apart from the height thing, which I don't think is that big a deal. That was always going to be a problem with whoever they cast. He wasn't likely to go through a growth spurt at just the right time for them! And although I often wonder if Taylor cuts it well enough as bad-Jacob (or should I say Mr Hyde!), I was happy that he was the same actor. Nothing annoys me more than a character with a completely different face in sequels! I always thought the "hot" line was pretty funny, but that may be because I heard Taylor's story about it first, so I always imagined him and Rob desperately trying to keep a straight face!

This, in passing, was my real problem with the "Angryward" scene. I didn't think they pulled it off. Neither of them looked angry enough. Even the first time I watched it, I was positive that they were laughing their heads off as soon as they called "cut", so it never had weight with me.

Sorry to jump into the middle of the conversation but I wanted to say that I agree with you about the Bella/Edward tension thing. I do think that it is important for there to be some tension though because in the scene in the book when Bella finds out she is pregnant, there is discordance between Edward and Bella.

Also, although I can understand Edward's shock at Bella's pregnancy, when I first read that scene in BD I felt strongly that his reaction was....a little lame (for want for a better word). Sure, he's shocked but I didn't really get a sense of him supporting Bella. I hope the BD film makers will show a mix of conflicting feelings and Edward supporting Bella because, in the initial stages of Bella's discovery of her pregnancy, I just feel that Edward's reaction was lacking in support.

Just my interpretation though and it's a while since I read the scene. I think I'm going to re-read BD before the movie is released.

I understood Edward's reaction because not only was it never supposed to be a possibility, but he did not think it would be a baby. It is not like Edward just thought they would be able to have a child that was able to learn and love. He thought it would be the terrifying immortal child that the vampire world had learned to fear. Plus, he felt responsible. Edward always wants to shoulder every burden and when he realized she was pregnant, he was broken because he thought of every possibilities and precaution only to realize there was a possibility he did not even consider.

I know that in books like these with so many supernatural elements it is easy to get desensitized to the severity of what is happening but if you take a step back to think about it, it would be a very horrific situation to have a creature inside the one you love and think it will not only kill her, but also many others if not eliminated. I think Edward was in a no win situation until he realized the baby was able to learn morals and values. If Jacob can think Bella being turned into a vampire is horrific and say he rather she was dead, plus actually go in search of the baby and want to kill her even though in both cases it is done with blind hatred instead of objective thinking, why is it hard to believe that Edward would be devastated and want to save Bella from something that he believes is based on the cases of the immortal children?

Plus, Edward feels like he finally has found his happiness with Bella, they are married and were able to make love, only for that bubble to be destroyed because he thinks she is going to die. The baby was feeding off her and making her weak, so it would be hard to be optimistic, especially with Jacob moping around and blaming you as well. His wife is dying, Jacob is trying to manipulate him, his family is torn apart by the pregnancy as well, and the pack is threatening to attack. I think his reaction was pretty believable. I did like that once Edward and the Cullens realized that the baby needed blood and he could start hearing her, it changed the situation. Maybe I feel that way because I was on the fence about the situation too. If it would be a baby that would not try to slaughter everyone then great, but if it was going to be like the only vampire babies anyone knew about up to that point, then I was fearful.

I think Jacob's plan to kill the baby is what annoyed me more than anything. He seemed delusional by that point. He thought he could kill each Cullen and the baby? He was possessed with hatred that could have easily gotten him killed. He might have taken out a Cullen or two, but I just can't find anything in any of the books or SM's interviews that would suggest Jacob was able to defeat that many vampires who would die for each other and that baby if need be even he did get help from Seth and Leah. His arrogance was irritating and he never grew as a character. I remember thinking that I was curious how SM was going to get him out of that situation. She always found a way to make an excuse or let Jacob slide for his actions more than any other character she wrote with. I am sure you can still imagine my surprise when the imprinting became the solution.

He's grieving, though, because he thinks Bella's dead. People don't tend to think rationally at those times.

I understood Edward's reaction, too. He was sure that what Bella was carrying was going to kill her. He obviously had heard stories of children like this before, which is why he questioned Kaure about it. She confirms his worst fear: that the mothers never survived. He believes that the child will kill Bella if it is allowed to live, so wanting to get rid of it before it hurts her is very typical of his character. It is another enemy trying to kill Bella. The problem this time, is that she loves this enemy, and doesn't want it to die. That leads to tension.

I understand perfectly if they have some tension, I just don't want there to be too much. Seeing that part through Jake's eyes made it difficult to see much love between them at that point. I really hope they've put in a scene that still shows it, in spite of their different stands over the pregnancy.

But it seemed like Jacob was always doing something impulsive since the end of New Moon, so is it more because he is grieving or because of his personality? I think it is more of his personality because there are several examples of Jake doing something unnecessary or impulsive. The big difference between his character and Edward's is that Edward got a lot of grief for his mistakes and constantly dealt with the consequences from them in order to grow. Jacob was rarely called on his behavior or actions even in Breaking Dawn so his character was at a stand still.

I think it is important for them to have some tension. What I hope does not happen is this over the top drama that does not translate well. It will be interesting to see how they deal with Bella's POV and Jacob's POV in these films because you are right Tornado there is a big difference between how Jacob perceives what is happening and what really is going, especially between the Cullens, Edward and Bella. I like that SM kept it consistent with showing exactly how Jacob would see things, but it usually made me wonder if it really happened that way or is it just how Jacob thinks it happened because like Taylor Lautner has said in interviews, Jacob is out of touch with reality at times and that is hard to show without being crazy. He definitely is off kilter throughout BD but that started at the end of New Moon and just got worse as time passed.
