Midnight Sun - How about writing it for the grown ups?
I read the portion of the rought draft Stephenie has posted on her website and am very excited about it. It really got me to thinking about something. Wouldn't it be great if Stephenie wrote all the books from Edwards perspective, but wrote them for adults?
I read the other 4 books and loved them. Stephenie is a brilliant writer!
I did feel "cheated" in one area and I realize this is because the books were written & marketed for a younger audience. What area? To put it boldy, the sexual intimacy, frusteration, etc. that Edward & Bella both must have been experiencing. Yes, it was talked about. But, Stephenie did such a wonderful job with her writing and drawing us into these characters, their minds, thoughts, etc., and it felt like the sexual intimacy was basically just glossed over.
Do not get me wrong, I wouldn't want to be reading porn. I hope I'm saying this right. I guess I feel like there was so much depth put into EVERY other aspect that it feels like the intimacy was kind of swepted aside like you would see in a movie 20 years ago. You know, the couple goes to bed, you hear a giggle, and then it's morning. That type of thing.
For example: The "morning after" during the honeymoon ~ there are feathers everywhere & the headboard is missing a chunk. I was laughing as I read this, but my mind also went 'and?' as I wished we would've had more details about the experience. It's not just that experience either. I really felt as though the should've been more put into the sexual tension and frusteration that both Edward & Bella were experiencing. Every movie or book you read about vampires is fraught with sexual tension and I feel like that whole thing was kind of brushed aside.
Like I said though, maybe it's because so much detail and care was given in every other aspect & it wasn't with this aspect that makes me feel disappointed about the lack of this.
So, my thought. I would love to see Stephenie write all 4 books from Edward's perspective & to write them for adults so that a little more detail can go into this. Am I alone on this? I hope I worded this write, because I don't want it to sound as though I want to see a big smut session.

i agree ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. i felt cheated too... not only do i want to know more, but it would make sense to have his side of the story be more mature. while bella was only 18, edward was over 100. he would have a more adult way of looking at things and explaining things. I really don't think it's smutty at all, but entertaining, and realistic.moanie wrote:I read the portion of the rought draft Stephenie has posted on her website and am very excited about it. i love what i saw of midnightsun on stepheniemeyer.com and i can't wait to read more, but to have it be more mature would be AMAZING.
Re: Midnight Sun Partial draft release --Express your feelings
Ok im a little confused ...a lot of people are still saying that she has put MS on hold but on her website it said
"June 2008 Update: In response to the outrageous number of emails that I have received with questions concerning Midnight Sun, I talked to Stephenie this weekend and she asked me to let everyone know that Midnight Sun is her next project. She has not yet finished writing it (and there is no timeline set up, so we all need to put a lot of effort into being patient for a while longer), but she is definitely still planning on having it published. And, after Breaking Dawn comes out, Stephenie will have much more time to focus on writing Midnight Sun."
so....she is having it published right? or did she change her mind or something?

Re: Midnight Sun Partial draft release --Express your feelings
I read it and loved it. I felt it added to my understanding of Edward's character. Just sorry it was leaked - would love more. I just can't get enough of the Cullens and I'm not sure how I'll make it to 2009 for the next movie! Please hurry!
i too am dazzled...i just want more edward
Re: Midnight Sun Partial draft release --Express your feelings
Midnight Sun was awesome to read. I just have that niggling, and rather annoyed beleif that the "leak" was intentional. I really enjoy the series, and cannot wait for the next book to come out, but do not think it's very mature of the author to put out a "leaked partial draft" on her own site, then state that she cannot finish it, because of someone else's actions. Admittedly, this is a YA series, but DA, we're not. (D-dumb) Fine. Get your publicity, then PLEASE JUST FINISH THE DARN BOOK!!! 12 chapters "Leaked" or not, I'll certainly buy the thing in its entirety!!

When? Wheeenn??
Stephanie, how can you do this?
I didn't know about Twilight when it was big.
I never got to go to the parties. I didn't know what they were for.
Now you're going to make me WAIT while you write GUIDES?!?!
Please?

Re: Midnight Sun Partial draft release --Express your feelings
I LOVE Midnight Sun cos Edward is my favorite character in the Twilight Saga and I always feel we don't get enuff of his perspective. I feel so sorry that SM put the project on hold because of the leakers and I really hope she will continue it soon.
Re: Midnight Sun Partial draft release --Express your feelings
Finally!!!!! Someone else who thinks it is a conspiracy! It just seems too convenient that only a small number were given to trusted people, and someone who was trusted "accidentally" leaked it. I just thought that maybe she was either experiencing writers block, wanted to make a lot of money by publishing the guides first, or that she wanted to see the fan's reaction to the "leakage". Sorry if I read it wrong and you don't think it's a conspiracy, but at least those are my thoughts on what happened.rainey wrote:Midnight Sun was awesome to read. I agree.
By the time she finishes it, revises it, edits it, and has it published, it probably won't be the same it is now.
But COME ON!!!
When do you think it'll be out?
I think sometime in 2010.
Not before Twilight is on DVD [June '09], or before the New Moon movie [11/20/09, supposedly]. Maybe in time for '09 Black Friday or the Christmas rush.

Re: Midnight Sun Partial draft release --Express your feelings
It's hard to tell. I don't think the movies will be spaced as far as part as like the HP movies because twilight won't hold the same interest among most people as HP. Therefore, I don't think she'll wait a horribly long time to finish MS because it will cost her money and her fans will just get fed up with waiting (imho). So, I think MS will probably come out early 2010. Just a hunch.
