1. Where did you think Edward had gone off to at the start of the chapter and why did you think he had vanished?
I thought he vanished because Bella was annoying him, A LOT, because he wanted her blood. I thought he had gone somewhere far away, to think.

2. We learn a few things about Bella's parents in this chapter. Charlie can't cook - Renee is rather needy and so on. What does this tell us about Bella as an individual?
Wow, this sounds like a question my English teacher would ask. Umm, that she was very mature, and that she would be really capable of looking after herself, and moving to and staying in Forks, even if she didn't like it.

3. What was your reaction to the polite way Edward treated Bella when he returned? Did you think he was putting on a show? How did it change your thoughts about his initial reaction to her?
I was repulsed by the way he was so polite. It was like he was saying, "I hate you, but I'm a good person, so I'll be nice." But I still thought it was a blood thing.

4. What was your first explanation for the change in Edward's eye color?
He's a vampire, he's allowed to do freaky stuff like that - he's mythical! I didn't search for an explanation.

I really just thought he was pacing around his house being all huffy.

2. We learn a few things about Bella's parents in this chapter. Charlie can't cook - Renee is rather needy and so on. What does this tell us about Bella as an individual?
That she is strong and independent. She's willing to take care of someone she loves and she doesn't get a lot of time for herself, to just be a kid.

3. What was your reaction to the polite way Edward treated Bella when he returned? Did you think he was putting on a show? How did it change your thoughts about his initial reaction to her?
I thought he was trying to correct his mistake. I was sure he felt bad, and there had to be a good reason for the way he acted. I started giving my mental picture of Edward a second chance, because he was trying to giver her one.

4. What was your first explanation for the change in Edward's eye color?
Well, I knew it had something with his being a vampire. I didn't know what though, just yet. I figured it out a little later, when I was thinking about it laying in my bed. I thought it might be a temperature thing, or just a weird vampire quirk.

I just figured he went home for a couple days... at that point I had NO idea why he had vanished, and why he reacted to Bella so strangly

It tells us that Bella was practically forced to more of an adult than a teenager, and that she was very much mature for her age

I was a little confused, But I knew something drastic had happened at fisrt and that he had figured whatever it was out. I realized that he could be human, and interactive to Bella haha

I had guessed corectly and thought that he had hunted... or that It was a vampire thing

I hadn't really thought about it. I just assumed he was hiding somewhere for some reason. I thought it was some sort of a vampire thing. At some point I had this theory about his eyes but I'll write that down at question 4.

Basically the same as what most people have answered before me: she had to grow up faster and is able to take care of herself and others.

3. What was your reaction to the polite way Edward treated Bella when he returned? Did you think he was putting on a show? How did it change your thoughts about his initial reaction to her?
I liked it. After Edward's behaviour in the first chapter, I didn't get why everyone liked him so much on line. After the second chapter I started to understand.
I didn't think he was putting on a show, but I just thought he had figured out what was bothering him about Bella and that he had taken care of it.

4. What was your first explanation for the change in Edward's eye color?
I didn't immediately make the link between the need to go hunting and the eye colour, but I thought it was just a vampire thing. I thought their eyes just changed gradually over the month/year/... and that after they became black, the would become a 'special' colour so that they couldn't walk around between normal people without drawing a lot of attention to themselves.

1. Where did you think Edward had gone off to at the start of the chapter and why did you think he had vanished? I didn't really know I was a little confused about it at first. I guessed because he was a vampire and her blood was getting to him.

2. We learn a few things about Bella's parents in this chapter. Charlie can't cook - Renee is rather needy and so on. What does this tell us about Bella as an individual? She takes care of Charlie and Renee. She helps Charlie like making his food and Bella helped Renee with her being needy.

3. What was your reaction to the polite way Edward treated Bella when he returned? Did you think he was putting on a show? How did it change your thoughts about his initial reaction to her? I was pretty confused that he dissed her and then he comes back and acts all nicey-nice towards her I didn't understand it at all.

4. What was your first explanation for the change in Edward's eye color? I thought his eyes resembled the mood that he was in.

I had no clue where he went.

She is very independant.

He confused me a lot in the beginning!

I thought it had to do with his moods.

I thought he was at home (I know better now) chilling trying to figure out things in his life or maybe he was pulling his head out so to speak LOL

Bella is very much a independant caregiver type personality, she's very selfless as so many parents have to be and she tends to think she needs to parent her parents rather than the other way around.

I still thought he was a jerk, now I was just confused. Typical guy can't figure out what he wants LOL I'm just kidding.

4. What was your first explanation for the change in Edward's eye color?

Well I kinda already knew he was a Vampire so I figured he went hunting... and that actually explained the past behavior for me. However why he reacted so strongly to her I couldn't figure out.

I don't know... I was so intrigued that I was waiting for him to come back.

I think that's why Bella is independent and can make a decision on her own. And that's why she didn't care if she was in danger while being with Edward later; her parents were dealing with their own problems and needs. However, I love the idea of Bella being a good daughter all things considered, and not getting in trouble because she doesn't have the attention she needs. She took control of her life and got used to the people around her.


3. What was your reaction to the polite way Edward treated Bella when he returned? Did you think he was putting on a show? How did it change your thoughts about his initial reaction to her?
I think he was trying to make things right. He had started with the wrong foot and decided to get to know Bella, the new girl.


4. What was your first explanation for the change in Edward's eye color?
I guess because he had "eaten"...

1. Where did you think Edward had gone off to at the start of the chapter and why did you think he had vanished?
I didn't really have a clue as to where Edward went. =/ My thoughts were that Edward was so irritated with Bella that he needed to take a little vacation from school. I guess I wasn't a little too far off. =D

She's totally different than her parents. Yet, she can be one or the other: for example, she's clumsy like her dad and she has a need for Edward. =)

3. What was your reaction to the polite way Edward treated Bella when he returned? Did you think he was putting on a show? How did it change your thoughts about his initial reaction to her?
I thought he was very polite and true to Bella. I was like, "Maybe he had something go on in the family and he wasn't in the mood. ." I didn't think he was putting on a show since he continued to talk to her. =)

4. What was your first explanation for the change in Edward's eye color?
I thought maybe he didn't want people to know that he needed contacts. . LOL

1. Where did you think Edward had gone off to at the start of the chapter and why did you think he had vanished? I though he was staying at home, away from Bella.

2. We learn a few things about Bella's parents in this chapter. Charlie can't cook - Renee is rather needy and so on. What does this tell us about Bella as an individual? I think this revelation built Bella's character up for the rest of the series. She's always been independant and mature, because she had to play the role of care giver to her parents. I think learning this makes it easier to want Bella to become immortal.

3. What was your reaction to the polite way Edward treated Bella when he returned? Did you think he was putting on a show? How did it change your thoughts about his initial reaction to her? When I read a book I put myself into the main character's head. So I felt alot of what Bella was feeling.


4. What was your first explanation for the change in Edward's eye color? Ha, it sounds silly now but I though his eyes were like a mood ring. Black when he was mad, topaz when he was calm, red when he was thirsty.
